About the Role

At Gore, we believe that sustainability is not just about compliance but about enabling transformation across the supply chain. As a Supplier Sustainability Specialist, you will play a critical role in the management of our chemicals portfolio. Through purchasing policy creation and implementation, you will ensure chemical suppliers understand and comply with Gore's current and future requirements for chemical content and quality in supplied materials. Using industry-standard tools such as restricted substances lists "RSL" and manufacturing restricted substances lists "mRSL" you will share with suppliers what chemicals should not be in the materials they supply or need to be limited to ensure end product compliance. You will also be responsible for driving an increase in the level of information received from suppliers to help achieve goals surrounding full supply-chain chemical transparency and traceability and supporting chemical supplier carbon footprint initiatives. All the while it will be critical to manage supplier data and certification documents in a consistent, well-organized manner.

This position will be locatedin Elkton, Maryland, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

Pay and Benefits:

  • $98,000 - $125,000 per year

Responsibilities
  • Create and implement a Chemical Purchasing Policy that sets requirements for reviewing and rejecting chemicals based on EH&S risk, legal compliance, and RSL/mRSL standards
  • Create and implement tools and processes to increase the amount of data received from chemical suppliers about the chemicals they use and other sustainability metrics
  • Partner with other Associates to translate policies into the language of the suppliers, ensuring they are enabled to understand our requirements
  • Ensure RSL/mRSL standards are met and maintained within chemical suppliers
  • Monitor supplier progress using tracking tools and dashboards
  • Support internal chemicals teams with requests for data or reports on chemicals purchased
  • Collaborate with sourcing managers, legal, and sustainability partners to manage high-risk suppliers
  • Engage suppliers confidently on sustainability topics, including RSLs, MRSLs, and regulatory frameworks like REACH and California Prop 65
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain management, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in engineering, procurement, or related roles
  • Capability to create scalable processes for compliance and managing associated data
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to travel 15%

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of Chemistry or Chemical Regulations
  • Understanding of apparel chemistry frameworks such as bluesign, OEKO-TEX, AFIRM, ZDHC, and HIGG FEM
  • Understanding of sustainability topics such as: Carbon Footprinting and Human Rights Due Diligence/Third-party Social Compliance

This position requires access to export-controlled areas and information.Candidates must be "U.S. persons" as that term is defined in 8 USC *1324b(a)(3).
