Georgia-Pacific's Wauna Paper Mill seeks a Kraft Mill/Woodyard Process Engineer to drive targeted improvements in equipment performance, energy optimization, asset strategies, and operator training while supporting equipment reliability and outages. This role is critical to the 40+ member Kraft Mill/Woodyard team and involves daily collaboration with operators and staff, including maintenance planners and technicians. Reporting to the Department Superintendent, the engineer will lead RCAs, refine operating envelopes, and enhance departmental efficiency. By advancing strategic initiatives and fostering teamwork, this position plays a pivotal role in optimizing operations within the Kraft Mill/Woodyard Department.

What You Will Do

  • Provide timely and relevant information to supervisors, co-workers, and hourly staff to aid in knowledge shares and decision-making.
  • Provide leadership during operational upset conditions by applying technical knowledge (both mechanical and process-related).
  • Compile data from continuous process monitoring equipment to optimize unit operations.
  • Engage Corporate/Industry SMEs to implement best practices.
  • Monitor and optimize key process indicators for equipment runnability.
  • Support and develop capital project conception and planning (includes evaluating potential upgrades for long-term sustainability).
  • Support the planning and execution of unit outages and annual outages on various equipment (Digesters, ClO2 Plant, Washing/Bleaching zones, Woodyard etc.).
  • Facilitate RCAs and coordinate/execute corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Improve the performance of the department's work efficiency by clearly defining department goals and KPIs to operators.
  • Encourage operators to engage in their process and develop ownership of equipment.
  • Create SOPs, escalation protocols, and troubleshooting guides to ensure reliable equipment operations and assist operators during upset conditions.
  • Evaluate chemical/energy savings via analytical analysis and mass and energy balances.
  • Coordination and planning of various chemical trials with 3rd party chemical vendors.
  • Maintain and update critical equipment files (including OM manuals, P&IDs, etc.).

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Process Engineer experience in a manufacturing, industrial or military environment
  • Experience in identifying, leading, and executing improvement initiatives within a small team

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field
  • Experience and knowledge of Kraft Mill/Woodyard systems such as Digesters, CLO2 plants, air systems, steam systems, screening systems, pumps, bleaching zones, etc
  • Experience in DeltaV DCS, ParcView, PI Process Book, PI Vision, KCF Smart Diagnostics, and SAP (or similar software)
