Job Summary:



The Wang lab in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, seeks a full-time Senior or Principal Professional Research Assistant. The position is funded by an existing NIH R01 grant and available immediately. The Wang lab has broad interests related to skin biology and disease including cancer biology, metabolism, and DNA tumor viruses. This individual would function as the lab manager in addition to conducting experiments related to the main areas of interest in the lab. We seek a highly motivated individual with a bachelor's degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, or related discipline. Dr. Wang's lab is supported by NIH (NCI) R01, industry funding, and foundation awards.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:



  • Culture of mammalian cells
  • Basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction
  • PCR, RT-PCR
  • Plasmid preparation
  • Transfection
  • Western blotting
  • Cell biology techniques including immunofluorescent staining
  • Animal work including mouse husbandry and intraperitoneal injection
  • Regular lab maintenance

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO

Minimum Qualifications:


Senior Professional Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, or related discipline, or a closely related field
  • Two (2) years' professional level research experience
  • Prior successful working experience using a wide range of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques
  • Experience in working with small animal models



A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis



Principal Professional Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, or related discipline, or a closely related field
  • Three (3) years professional level research experience
  • Prior successful working experience using a wide range of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology techniques
  • Experience in working with small animal models


A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to individuals with more than 3 years of experience in a research laboratory setting. Preference will be given to candidates experienced in one or more of the following:



  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Four (4) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory
  • Basic computer software skills and the ability to learn new software programs


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Advanced or Expert knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Advanced or Expert ability to analyze and solve complex problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Expert level knowledge of lab management and lab techniques process, function and/or technology

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE (minimum - 40th posting max).

Senior Professional: $54,357 - $69,248

Principal Professional: $62,606 - 79,635

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
