We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual for a full-time Research Lab Technician position in Dr. Melis Anahtar's laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Our lab is broadly interested in developing novel diagnostics and therapeutics to combat antibiotic-resistant infections. The candidate will play a key role in developing next-generation, sequencing-based molecular diagnostics, including bacterial culture, nucleic acid extraction, molecular assay optimization, and nanopore sequencing. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of sexually transmitted infections with near-term translational potential.
Education - Prior experience in a wet lab environment (including coursework). - Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic research environment. - Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and procedures. - Prior experience with bacterial culture and molecular biology is strongly preferred. - Willingness to work with clinical specimens. - Enthusiasm for learning new skills. - Commitment to laboratory safety practices and protocols "As part of the daily responsibilities, the Research Lab Technician will: - Culture and maintain bacterial strains in the laboratory, adhering to strict safety protocols. - Extract nucleic acids from bacterial isolates and clinical specimens. - Perform and optimize experiments using a variety of molecular assays, including qPCR and nanopore sequencing. - Maintain accurate lab records. - Analyze and present data under the supervision of senior researchers. - Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot experimental procedures. - Contribute a productive and collegial laboratory environment, with participation in journal clubs and lab meetings."
