Technical Delivery Manager Responsibilities:
TDM role in outlet not only focuses on the delivery of the software and the release process but also acts as a glue to maintain close liaison between the stakeholders. For example, the TDM's close allies are TPMs in the Product team, and the lead devs on the engineering team.
- Facilitates and organizes the continuous and simultaneous cadence of releases through the software development lifecycle. Builds comprehensive release plans and schedules in advance, communicates with the team to set the right expectations.
- Collaborates with a variety of business and technical analysts, software development and quality assurance engineers, as well as Infrastructure, DevOps, and Operations teams to provide Release Management services.
- Coordinates and communicates with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure new products will release on schedule with the highest level of quality possible. Guarantees smooth, predictable, and timely delivery of software products and system enhancements.
- Builds comprehensive release plans and schedules and publishes release statuses and metrics. Manages and communicates issues and risks during the release cycles to ensure successful deployments.
- Develops and maintains release calendars working closely with the product and project managers from different portfolios and product lines of business. Produces and publishes release notes, system outage notifications, and deployment instructions, as necessary.
- Coordinates with the appropriate business and technical teams, as well as environment and configuration management when planning and scheduling environment outages, restores, and refreshes.
- Facilitates the triage process of simple to complex build and deployment problems, release and environment issues, and coordinates removal of blocking issues impacting releases.
- Determines the readiness of each release based on established criteria, quality measurements, production environment readiness, training and support plans, rollout and rollback procedures, and risk management contingencies. Produces the release readiness scorecard throughout the software development cycles.
- Validates and facilitates approval process for the final release of products and/or services before being shipped or rolled out to customers.
- Manage and tracks DORA metrics for releases, such as, build failures, deployment failures, and others, and set goals to improve them.
- Plans and implement improvements to the process to optimize efficiency.
- Drive agile teams' continuous improvement with a Kaizen mindset.
- Constantly work with the Product Managers to ensure product. Help them facilitate refinement and planning preparedness (definition, refinement, scoping). Use definition of done effectively to ensure release readiness.
