The Opportunity:

This is a non-sworn, essential personnel position responsible for the management and coordination of special event services within the University Police Department. The role involves overseeing all aspects of event-related safety and security operations across University campuses. Key responsibilities include budgeting, logistical planning, documentation, data analysis, auditing, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures. The position plays a critical role in supporting the department's mission to maintain a safe and secure environment during University-sponsored events.

Responsibilities:

Special Events Management


  • Plans, coordinates, schedules, and executes law enforcement operational plans for university-sponsored events including the hosting of high-profile dignitaries, concerts, sporting events, and for all events sponsored by external entities.

  • Conducts event threat analyses on guest speakers, concert performers, and other dignitaries to determine if critical infrastructure, increased security, target hardening, or high-profile statuses require additional internal or external resources.

  • Determines staffing levels and resources for all events; analyzes costs to ensure budget projections are not exceeded.

  • Coordinates event logistics including parking, traffic control, security, police, medical personnel, temporary facilities, briefings, attendance, and all documentation.

  • Ensures safety and security compliance with university, local, state and federal regulations.

  • Serves as a liaison to university departments as well as to local, state and federal law enforcement and/or intelligence services.

  • Supports, interprets, and communicates university and department policies and procedures including safety regulations to all involved parties.

  • Assists with day of event operations to communicate critical planning resources and information to the Police Department, Department of Security & Emergency Management, and external law enforcement agencies.

  • Verifies the accuracy of after-action reviews and reports; submits findings to Command Staff.

  • Communicates with and coordinates requests for additional lighting and traffic control devices for campus events.

  • Assists with set up and movement of event related equipment, such as light towers, message boards, cones.


Project Management


  • Designs, develops, and conducts safety and security studies and projects for the department.

  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data; provides detailed reports for review.

  • Designs and develops comprehensive spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and other documents.


Business Analysis


  • Performs special event and labor audits; makes quality improvement recommendations where appropriate.

  • Complies with Florida Administrative Code and Administrative Register to ensure retention of documents.

  • Fulfills public records requests efficiently and in a timely manner.

  • Coordinates pre- and post-event briefings.


Additional Duties

  • Provides administrative assistance to others as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experienceor an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Professional experience in law enforcement, with a focus on event safety planning and coordination.

  • Strong knowledge of the geographic layout of local jurisdictions, the University campus, and key landmarks.

  • Demonstrated experience managing special events, particularly large-scale or high-profile gatherings including budgeting, logistics, and compliance.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to handle sensitive information and manage competing priorities effectively.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in public speaking and delivering presentations.

  • Proven ability to lead, implement, and manage projects, to include calendar oversight and schedule coordination.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite with a focus on data analysis in.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while remaining self-motivated and proactive.

  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality customer service and cultivating strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to thrive in a unique community and work environment with limited supervision.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and see projects through to completion.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and engage respectfully with the public.

  • Capacity to perform efficiently under pressure in fast-paced or high-stress situations.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated salary range for this non-exempt position is $42,367 ($20.29 per hour) to $51,899 ($24.86 per hour). The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Schedule may vary based on events and business needs to include evening and weekend coverage.
