About the Position The Human Resources (HR) Associate for the Employee Retention and Performance Division of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office provides professional level support related to a variety of employee compensation, retention, performance and leave management related human resources functions. This role performs compensation analysis and salary placements in range, creates and revises job descriptions, participates in employee retention, performance and leave initiatives, and prepares documentation for compensation and other critical Division related business needs. - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

Other requirements
- Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
- Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.
Our Preferred Candidate has
- Two (2) years of human resources experience.
- Experience in compensation plan administration.
- Professional certification in Human Resources (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP)

Essential Job Tasks (This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)
- Prepares salary placements in range (PIR) for new hires and promotions/demotions; evaluates applicant work experience, maintains internal equity documentation to ensure equitable placements; collaborates on pay matters with County Central Human Resources.
- Creates accurate documentation and implements timely salary changes and additive pay (e.g., Special Work Assignment-SWA, Management Professional Assignment-MPA, County and state incentives or premium pay, performance retention-based or market adjustment increases).
- Generates comprehensive compensation and Division related spreadsheets and reports; prepares and distributes correspondence and memos; completes tasks within established timelines for project, initiative, and pay period based deadlines.
- Serves as primary point of contact to interpret compensation or other Division processes to employees, managers, and applicants.
- Acts as compensation liaison for law enforcement and outside agencies, County departments, and the public; responds to outside agencies and organizations regarding salary information and job descriptions.
- Prepares detailed and comprehensive spreadsheets with a high degree of accuracy using formulas and pivot tables.
- Interprets and ensures complies with federal and state regulations/laws, MCSO and County policies relating to compensation, employee classification, and related subject matter (e.g., Fair Labor Standards Act).
- Assists in the preparation and research of market studies; obtains data from other organizations and law enforcement agencies; prepares spreadsheets and reports with resulting information for Command Staff review.
- Creates and revises job descriptions and essential functions for positions; works with managers and command staff to ensure documentation accurately reflects essential job tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities, and working conditions.
- Consults with department managers on determinations of appropriate use of established positions; audits positions to recommend job reclassification as appropriate.
- Implements creation, inactivation, and documentation of change in position attributes as business needs dictate, including drafting written justifications.
- Updates HRIS with salary related changes that occur outside of standard data uploads.
- Researches, develops, and implements special projects as assigned.
- Composes complex and confidential correspondence within mandated timelines.
- Serves as a subject matter expert; collaborates with other HR team members and provides work direction in the absence of the supervisor as needed.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement and provides recommendations to supervisor.
- Prepares and maintains confidential files.
