Position Summary

Odyssey Systems is seeking a Software Engineer to support the HNC program at Lackland Air Force Base. This role requires a broad understanding of software engineering principles, including planning, design, verification, development, documentation, and lifecycle support. The ideal candidate will analyze complex systems, develop innovative solutions, support DevOps and Agile methodologies, and contribute to the creation and sustainment of secure, high-performance software systems in support of Air Force missions.



Responsibilities

In this Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) role, you will provide expert-level support to Department of Defense (DoD) programs by assisting government leadership with decision-making, planning, and execution throughout the acquisition lifecycle. You will apply your technical and/or professional expertise to ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations, contribute to mission success, and help deliver critical capabilities to the warfighter.

Duties include, but not limited to:

    Analyze, design, develop, test, and maintain software systems to meet operational requirements and mission needs.

  • Evaluate software feasibility by conducting analysis, defining problems, reviewing requirements, and identifying innovative solutions.

  • Document software architecture and development activities using clear diagrams, flowcharts, code comments, and technical documentation.

  • Develop software based on system specifications, programming standards, and mission objectives.

  • Conduct systems and software analysis to recommend improvements to existing applications, workflows, and policies.

  • Evaluate and integrate vendor software and licensing solutions, including testing and approval of commercial or government-acquired products.

  • Gather, analyze, and summarize software development and operational data to support engineering and programmatic decisions.

  • Work closely with users to understand information needs, data flow, and work processes in support of solution design and lifecycle planning.

  • Apply the software development life cycle (SDLC) framework in daily work to ensure quality and consistency across development efforts.

  • Plan and implement Agile acquisition strategies and iterative development approaches.

  • Plan and implement DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and cloud or hybrid infrastructure deployment.



Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Must have an Active Top Secret Clearance

Education: BA/BS, with 10 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, of which 3 years must be in the DoD OR

    • 15 years of directly related experience, 5 of which must be in the DoD
  • Experience on DoD or Air Force acquisition programs desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic team environment meeting end users' requirement
  • Comfortable working and collaborating with a prime contractor delivering all engineering and software development services.

  • Proficiency in high-level programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++, C#, JavaScript)

  • Experience with Agile development frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban)

  • Working knowledge of DevOps pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or DoD Cloud environments)

  • Understanding of SDLC, software architecture, and design patterns

  • Experience with source code configuration, issue tracking, and documentation tools

Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication

  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders

  • Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills
