Overview

Geosyntec has a limited-term, part-time opportunity for a Senior Consultant - Civil Designer - Dam and Levee Safety & AutoCAD Civil3D (up to 20 hrs./wk. for up to one year) to support our growing Dams & Levees practice, preferably in our Davis, CA or Los Angeles, CA office. There is an opportunity for a fully remote work schedule at the discretion of the Company.

The position will apply engineering fundamentals and technical expertise to perform computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of civil and geotechnical engineering design projects, including developing layouts, grading plans and details for civil engineering projects, including dams, levees, spillways, landfills, industrial sites, stormwater, wastewater, and utilities. Projects may also include mechanical drawing systems and opportunities to contribute from the conceptual design stage through construction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Understand and visualize overall engineering concepts and translate to design drawings with construction and material specifications;
  • Analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine the best approach to complete a drawing set;
  • Manage production of drawing set from creation, markup, and modification based on overall design;
  • Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar;
  • Anticipating necessary drawing edits, callouts, details, etc. and make those edits to complete a drawing;
  • Assign work to, mentor, train, and supervise CADD Designers and Technicians in the preparation of design drawings and details and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality;
  • Assist in the design and drafting of menu standards and hardcopy file management and maintenance, and document management;
  • Assist with CADD department management tasks including estimating level of effort for CADD-related work and assisting in the development of file management standards;
  • Maintain effective communication with Project Managers and assist the project teams by providing the needed information for construction;
  • Participate in the CAD Action Group, by supporting, networking, and collaborating to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company; and
  • Work collaboratively with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and details and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality.
  • Provide technical input for designs of cut-off walls, spillways, and overall modifications of dams, levees, and hydraulic structures
  • Provide technical input for designs of drainage plans, and stormwater and wastewater conveyance systems
  • Provide analysis and Quality Control of Survey Data
  • Review and produce scopes of work for surveying efforts
  • Provide technical input for Surveying and Civil Engineering designs


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in Civil Engineering or related field. (preferred)
  • Current Professional Engineer License (CA). (required)
  • Current Professional Land Surveyor (CA). (required)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 20 years related experience in a professional civil engineering setting, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position. (required)
  • Successful Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years. (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of civil engineer concepts including plan set organization, topographical survey data, drawing scales, survey coordinate systems, and complex grading tasks and volume calculations. (required)
  • Extensive experience using the latest releases of Autodesk AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil3D. Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD includes but is not limited to Civil 3D Annotation styles and annotation tools, object and label styles, solid understanding of key objects such as Surfaces, Alignments, Profiles, Profile Views, Pipe Networks, Surface Analyses and Volume Calculations. (required)
  • Understanding of Feature Lines, Grading Groups, Assemblies, and Corridors. (required)
  • Experience with Autodesk Map 3D and working interoperability knowledge between ESRI ArcMap or equivalent GIS software. (required)
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel. (required)
  • Ability to work with mathematical fundamentals such as geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical engineering design situations. (required)
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, CAD Managers, or others on the project team. (required)
  • Strong communication skills to include the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and the ability to interact effectively to maintain a team environment. (required)
  • Ability to effectively present information to project team and clients. (required)
  • Ability to teach / mentor others in drafting and design techniques both in the software and on paper. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below is the potential compensation range that we in good faith believe is applicable for this role at the time of this posting and is only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base pay range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Pay: $150.00/hour / Maximum Pay: $180.00/hour (all California locations)
