Responsibilities

Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. It also provides select services for the Behavioral Health division of UHS. Through continuing growth, IPM operates in 11 markets across six states and the District of Columbia. Position Overview

The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis provides strategic leadership and vision to create comprehensive analytical tools and decision support capabilities for IPM. This position develops and maintains advanced data integrity strategies, oversees both financial planning and decision support functions, and directs IPM Operating and Capital Budget Processes while providing GME and quality program support. The Director critically analyzes financial and operational results through advanced analytics to identify strategic opportunities, leads business case development, and provides executive decision support. This role improves standardization to remove variation, focuses on strategic output, and collaborates with IS to explore systems and technology while building one great finance team across all analytical functions.

  • Provides strategy and vision to create advanced analytical tools (e.g., Pyramid, Oracle, Workday) and leads strategic analytical initiatives that identify actionable insights directly supporting IPM's financial and operational goals. Develops comprehensive executive reporting, data-driven business cases, and ROI analyses for strategic initiatives. Conducts scenario modeling and predictive analytics to support strategic planning and executive decision-making
  • Directs IPM's Operating and Capital Budget process and supports Long Range Planning (LRP) development, including setting targets and monitoring performance to ensure goals are met. Collaborates with Acute Finance team, Prominence team, and other teams during the budget and LRP processes to ensure alignment across all business segments. Develops key indicators to generate financial targets and supports strategic financial planning initiatives
  • Critically analyzes financial and operational results to identify areas of opportunity and develops data-driven improvement plans that support Monthly Operational Reviews (MORs) and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs)
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive data warehousing, data integrity, and data governance strategies, including EPM and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle and McKesson). Oversees integration between EMR systems, data warehouses, and BI platforms. Collaborates with IS, Acute Financial Analytics, and other teams to support IPM's data and analytics strategy
  • In conjunction with IPM leadership, develops and executes goals to quantifiably improve IPM operations, including eliminating process variation and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of IPM teams and resources

Qualifications

BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Economics or related discipline with 7+ years' experience leading analytical teams and providing complex financial or operational analytics to senior leadership.

  • Background in data and analytics should include robust experience with data modeling, data warehousing, data governance, data analytics, statistical analysis, and data visualization
  • Advanced understanding of analytical tools on the market with a demonstrated ability to learn new analytical tools
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, Microsoft Office products (especially Excel with advanced formulas, macros, pivot tables), and applications such as Oracle products (HFM, PBCS, FCCS), McKesson General
  • Ledger, Workday, and analytics tools (Pyramid, Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, SSRS)
  • Knowledge of managed care, Medicare Advantage, healthcare reimbursement models, HEDIS measures, patient experience metrics, and risk adjustment methodologies
  • Experience with healthcare-specific systems (EMRs, practice management systems)
  • Travel up to 25%
