Job Summary: The Patient Assistant-Heart performs duties in the department and outpatient clinic environment and works under the supervision of the department director, physicians and physician extenders and other licensed clinical staff. Provides direct and indirect care for patients seeking specialized cardiac services, e.g., Heart Failure, Electrophysiology Procedures, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR), mitral clip. Performs a variety of duties within the unlicensed assistive personnel scope of practice that includes, but is not limited to, patient registration, patient care, data collection and secretarial tasks. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Emergency Medical technician program required or successful completion of School of Nursing Fundamentals required. Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) training acceptable in lieu of completion of Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Technician program, however, must function within the unlicensed assistive personnel scope of practice. Minimum of one year of experience providing patient care in the clinic or inpatient environment preferred. Knowledge and Skills: Basic knowledge of medical terminology, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and patient rights required. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) and relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position; operate and troubleshoot equipment required for the position; perform secretarial duties as needed for position; be assertive and consistent in following policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; accept and follow directions; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; collaborate with nurse/physician in charge to problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; function within medical assistant scope of practice; distinguish colors, hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position. Licensures and Certifications: Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) through the American Heart Association required. Our mission is to continue the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ.
