Job Summary:

This position is responsible for supervising the Material Inspection Technicians. Responsibilities include coordination of the sampling, inspecting, testing, and releasing of incoming inspect items. These inspect items include chemicals, packaging materials, and printed materials. This position is also responsible for coordinating the final inspection and release of all finished products. This position will assist in the testing/validation of new components, packaging, and equipment. Also responsible for overseeing process improvement efforts, developing and optimizing protocols, and performing other duties as assigned by leadership.

Essential Duties and Functions



  1. Plan, organize, schedule, and direct the sampling and inspection of all inventoried raw materials, packaging materials and printed materials for use in production, according to established procedures.
  2. Supervise the sampling and inspection/testing of purchased reagents, components, and equipment that will be distributed by Streck, according to established procedures.
  3. Review and update MI procedures and specifications.
  4. Recruit, train, evaluate and develop Materials Inspection personnel.
  5. Interface with other departments for the purpose of communicating and working towards solutions to material issues.
  6. Assist with the development and ensure adherence to the department monetary budget.
  7. Comply with all departmental and company safety procedures and regulations.
  8. Ensure adherence to ISO Quality System as it pertains to Material Inspection.
  9. Ensure employee training is conducted and documented for safety and environmental programs.
  10. Coordinate the final inspection and release of all finished products.
  11. Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
  12. Conduct regular performance evaluations for all personnel according to company policy. Utilize this tool to motivate and challenge employees, communicating a defined career path for direct reports.
  13. Ensure annual calibration is done for applicable MI equipment as directed by quality system and calibration records are maintained.
  14. Manage attendance and overtime for Material Inspection personnel.
  15. Propose and execute change control process requirements and present product and manufacturing process changes at the change review board meetings. Primary responsibility for generation and documentation of all aspects of these changes in MI. Demonstrate ownership of process improvement projects, then drive the implementation efforts once approved.
  16. Assist with the implementation of new measuring equipment.


Position Requirements



  • Associate or bachelor's degree in business and/or science or equivalent requirement.
  • 2-4 years inspection experience required; some experience at the supervisory level preferred.
  • CQI Certification required.
  • Knowledge of FDA and other regulatory agency requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience directing industrial safety programs helpful.
  • PC literacy with knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and word processing applications.


Technical Competencies



  • Ability to lift up to 55 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to grasp liquid handling equipment, labware/glassware, move carts, etc.
  • Ability to reach and stretch for labware six inches from the floor to six feet, ten inches high to load care, and the ability to move up and down and to stand on a foot stool to pull items.
  • Ability to accurately measure, pour and/or decant liquids.
  • Ability to differentiate colors and shapes.
  • Ability to perform all duties in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform general arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to verbally communicate and interact with others in a coherent and concise manner.
  • Ability to read, understand, and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures, safety procedures, aseptic techniques, Safety
  • Data Sheets (SDS), Employee-Right-To-Know Program, and company policies and procedures.


Work Environment/Travel Demands

The work environment is a climate-controlled biological/chemical laboratory. Occasional short durations to cold temperatures inside walk-in coolers. Ability to wear required laboratory clean room clothing (laboratory coats, hair bonnets, and beard covers (as applicable) and other safety/protective equipment (masks, gloves, and/or face shields for example) for up to two and a half hours consecutively. Travel demands for this position are estimated up to 0%. If travel is required, this travel may include customer visits, events/trade shows, and completion of presentations primarily throughout Domestic US or International regions. Employees must comply with all travel recommendations regarding "safe travel" according to company policies and guidelines, and all federal, state, local, and international orders..

Physical and Mental Demands

Medium work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This also includes standing for up to two and a half hours consecutively, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, stooping, fingering, and grasping. Expressing and receiving detailed information through written and oral communication. Also has an ability to make sound, appropriate, and prompt decisions within the guidelines of the role.
