Position Announcement

Serve as an academic advisor for TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) students and coordinate the tutoring component of the SSS program. TRIO is a federally funded student services grant program designed to identify and provide services for Utah Tech students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program specifically serves low-income and first-generation students, and/or students with documented disabilities and assists them in completing a bachelor's degree. Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, career, and personal advising for SSS students. Assist students with financial aid information and processes.
  • Assess the needs of participants and monitor student performance. Build and update Student Graduation Plans (SGP) for each advisee and maintain academic progress information for each project participant. Enter student contacts and other data and information in Blumen and Navigate software programs.
  • Execute student success strategies to promote student and program retention and completion goals. Advise and assist students in graduate school application/pursuits.
  • Teach student success courses associated with the program and provide corresponding support services (e.g., time management, study skills, financial literacy, major selection, career awareness, test taking strategies, etc.).
  • Assist with admission of new students to the program.
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise SSS tutors. Coordinate students' needs and tutors' specialties and times. Keep tutoring records on students receiving services. Monitor tutoring budget and tutoring payroll and report monthly to program director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Two years' related experience working in a secondary or post-secondary educational setting required. Some supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to interpret assessment data.
  • Respect for all individuals and positive attitude toward capacity of disadvantaged youth to succeed in post-secondary education.
  • Familiarity with Excel and running program reports and budgets preferred.
  • Teaching and classroom management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with student success and retention strategy. Knowledge of FAFSA and student financial aid requirements and processes preferred.
  • Experience working with University software systems preferred (Banner/Navigate/DegreeWorks/Blumen).
  • Experience working with students from underrepresented populations preferred.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time overtime-exempt staff position. Annual salary of $44,500 for Bachelor's degree-qualified candidate and $47,750 for Master's degree-qualified candidates. Desired start date of September/October 2025.
