Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Area Manager to lead and manage manufacturing operations across assigned departments. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality products in accordance with established procedures and performance standards. The Area Manager will oversee multiple shifts and/or departments and is expected to demonstrate a high level of expertise in manufacturing processes, leadership, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations to ensure safety, quality, and productivity goals are consistently met.
  • Maintain a safe, injury-free work environment and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Supervise and develop Supervisors and Team Leads to drive accountability and performance.
  • Ensure adherence to process controls, operating procedures, and quality standards.
  • Plan and organize production schedules to meet customer demand in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Monitor and manage performance metrics, including throughput, earned hours, and budget adherence.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, manage employee relations, support hiring, promotions, and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies.
  • Develop and implement training programs for leadership and production staff focused on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through metrics, employee engagement, and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels to meet production requirements.
  • Submit capital equipment requests with appropriate cost justifications.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Safety: Maintain OSHA recordable incident rate below company benchmark
  • Quality: Achieve target First Pass Yield (FPY) and reduce scrap/rework rates
  • Delivery: Meet or exceed On-Time Delivery (OTD) targets
  • Efficiency: Attain or surpass labor efficiency and throughput goals
  • Cost: Operate within or under departmental budget
  • Engagement: Maintain low employee turnover and high training compliance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, or a related field; or 5-7 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive results through others
  • Proficiency in production planning, inventory control, and performance tracking systems
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and safety programs
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and technical documents
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software applications

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with regular time spent on the production floor
  • Occasional standing, walking, and exposure to mechanical equipment
  • Frequent communication and computer use required
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. occasionally
  • Works independently on broad general assignments with the responsibility for planning of work. Makes major decisions within broad limitations of policies, referring to superiors when large investment or long-term programs are involved.
