Job Overview:

Responsible for proper handling and processing of equipment, instrumentation and supplies necessary to perform procedures in the Operating Room. Responsible for decontamination, inspection and assembly, sterilization as well as case carts to ensure all necessary items are available for the operating room and all user units.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• CRCST- Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician thru IAHCSMM or CBSPD required

• Experience:

• 2-5 years Sterile processing experience

Essential Functions:

Demonstrates basic knowledge of the operating room and hospital wide procedures. Correlates operative procedures for instrumentation & equipment.

* Understands and applies the principles and the different methods of sterilization. Implements decontamination procedures per regulatory agencies guidelines and hospital policies and procedures.

* Demonstrates ability to properly identify, care for and handle the operating room instruments and equipment according to the manufacturers' written instructions and hospital policy. Follows all Manufacturers written guidelines for processing.

* Demonstrates proper handling and disposal of clean waste and regulated medical waste including sharps, needles etc.

* Demonstrates knowledge of principles of sterile technique, universal precautions, fire, safety and disaster protocols, body mechanics.

* Maintains an unquestionable attendance record.

* Demonstrates skill in interpersonal relationships with co-workers and promotes culture and kindness. Understands and displays diversity and inclusion.

* Communicates information related to instrumentation, equipment and supplies that may potentially delay or cancel surgery due to malfunctioning equipment or any other usual occurrences in a timely manner.

* Orients and precepts new employees in the instrument room and the Central Sterile Processing department.

* Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting other members of the team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary to perform the procedure in a timely fashion.

* Participates in quality and efficiency improvement activities and attends in service programs.

* Fills out appropriate forms and logs accurately and completely when distributing equipment/supplies to patient care areas.

* Provides the necessary instruments, equipment and supplies needed by the O.R. and other departments on a timely basis.
