Job Title: Supplier Quality Engineer

Department: Global Procurement and Supply Chain

Classification: Exempt

Summary: The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for developing a global world-class supply chain organization by providing quality planning, control, and improvement support for our supplier partners to assure that our product quality exceeds our customers' expectations. By ensuring that all suppliers perform to the highest standards, the SQE will enable United Safety and Survivability Corporation to achieve a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Suppliers continuously improve by utilizing the methods, tools and processes employed by the Supplier Quality Engineering teams.

Responsibilities: As the Supplier Quality Engineer you will:

  • Manage and communicate quality KPIs in supplier scorecard.
  • Perform initial supplier audits and monitor suggested improvements.
  • Establish a cadence of supplier audits based on scorecard performance and carry out the audits.
  • Build relationships with suppliers and serve as the point-of-contact for quality with Suppliers.
  • Implement AIAG concepts and standards with suppliers to improve performance.
  • Work with Suppliers on PPAP approvals, rejects, returns, and develop a process for timely responses to "Corrective Actions" and credit/rework associated costs using 8D methodologies.
  • Develop and establish process for analyzing Supplier performance.
  • Develop a Supplier Quality Manual and Supplier Standards Guide.
  • Confirm process control, capability and sustainability of the supplier utilizing Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Initiate process improvement projects with suppliers to increase efficiency, reduce costs and lead time, simplify processes, and improve quality.
  • Support supplier processes and test method validation activities by developing and executing protocols for new or existing processes.
  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for disposition of nonconforming material and ensures that effective root cause analysis is conducted; tracks implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
  • Enable Supplier Change Request (SCR) process for a timely and effective decision.
  • Manage programs to evaluate precision and accuracy of supplier production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment.
  • Be willing to travel domestically and internationally as required. Estimated travel up to 50%.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

You're a great fit for this position if this describes you;

  • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Quality or Purchasing including: supplier quality management, supplier quality engineering, quality management/engineering, supplier integration, strategic supply management, supplier development, scheduling, forecasting or logistics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail, professionalism, and diplomacy in producing error-free documents and interacting with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Experience collaborating with and visiting suppliers globally.
  • Proficient in computer software: MS Applications Word, Excel, and understanding of ERP systems.
  • Able to handle light lifting of component parts and prototype assemblies.
  • Master's degree of applicable relevance is a plus.
  • Certified Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt and/or Lean Certification is a plus.
