Job Overview

The Director of Software Development plays a critical role in shaping this trajectory, owning the architecture, development, co-development and continuous evolution of our Postpaid Customer and Billing Platform. This critical platform supports a comprehensive range of business capabilities, including customer interactions, interface development, resource management, network provisioning, number portability, and invoice presentation. This role is crucial in defining and implementing repeatable solutions that enhance efficiency and reduce complexity across multiple development teams. By leading and collaborating with Domain/Engineering architects, the Director shapes the strategic direction and roadmaps to meet T-Mobile's fast-paced business. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset and hands-on technical leadership to drive innovation, scale, and agility across our software delivery lifecycle. This is not a purely oversight role. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technologist with the depth and curiosity to engage directly in technical discussions, design reviews, and problem-solving efforts. While leading through others, this individual remains close to the code, architecture, and engineering practices regularly mentoring teams on system design and scalability.
Un-carrier Responsibilities:
- Direct the end-to-end software development of the Postpaid Customer and Billing Platform, ensuring the platform's scalability, resilience, and extensibility to support T-Mobile's business growth and evolving customer needs.
- Execution: Oversee multiple agile scrum teams responsible for creating detailed low-level designs, authoring user stories, coding, testing, and delivering high-quality software with urgency and precision.
- Establish standards for software architecture, coding, testing, and documentation. Champion best practices for code quality, maintainability, and operational excellence. Mentors and develops technical leaders and teams, fostering innovation and adherence to best practices in development
- Drive a delivery culture that balances speed with quality and compliance. Ensure timely launches of new capabilities and enhancements that meet both business objectives and customer expectations.
- Partner with Product Management, Architecture, DevOps, QA, and Operations teams to align strategic priorities, technical dependencies, and release planning.
- Develop and manage a robust staffing model leveraging both internal employees and a global delivery hub. Ensure optimal team structure, skill mix, and capacity planning aligned with program priorities.
- Identify opportunities to optimize development processes, tools, and team performance. Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and accountability
The Experience You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience required.
- Master's/Advanced Degree preferred.
- More than 10 years of professional experience leading software development teams in a large-scale company environment.
- 7+ years of architecting and implementing digital service platforms and solutions.
- 7+ years of Mentoring and developing technical leaders within the software development domain.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to mentor and develop technical leaders and teams, fostering innovation and adherence to best practices.
- Capable of shaping strategic direction and roadmaps to align with company goals.
- Expertise in defining and implementing solutions that enhance efficiency and reduce complexity.
- Proficient in managing software development projects using Agile methodologies to ensure efficient delivery.
- Experience in managing multiple development platforms and ensuring the successful execution of technology initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Domain/Engineering architects and other stakeholders.
- Skilled in leading large teams and driving high performance through effective management.
- Expertise in overseeing large-scale programs, aligning project goals with business objectives.

Base Pay Range: $194,100 - $262,700
Corporate Bonus Target: 25%
The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as qualifications and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
