SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Members of Amtrak's Business Improvement & Analytics (BIA) team are leaders in formulating and executing business strategies, high-impact analytical solutions, and continuous improvement. BIA drives value creation by supporting functional Procurement & Supply Chain teams and greater departmental strategies by ensuring efficiency & excellence in execution of those strategies. This role supports the use of business intelligence, data analysis, and reporting solutions and assists in data cleansing and integration projects. This position will have the opportunity to research, develop and deliver innovative solutions and insights to functional processes or system issues to drive business improvement. The Business Improvement Analyst plays an important role in supporting various strategic initiatives and will provide direct support to the MRO Materials team on functions related to supplier performance management, delivery performance, spend analysis, and cost savings.
Works under close supervision of manager and/or team leads.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Support department requests through participation in researching, developing, and implementing data-gathering and analysis methods.
  • Analyze and interpret low-to-moderately complex, business metrics and performance data.
  • Manipulate and integrate multiple data sources for reporting.
  • Collaborate with colleagues/subject matter experts in Procurement & Supply Chain on functional business process requirements.
  • Use quantitative methods to understand, identify trends, predict, and enhance processes for key strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and recommend business improvement opportunities to enhance performance, drive efficiencies, and reduce costs.
  • Support the buyers and expeditors in their effort of ensuring supplier delivery performance.
  • Report observations/findings and recommends solutions to team lead or manager.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree, in lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or 4+ years relevant experience
  • Basic understanding of programming, SQL, databases, and statistics.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).
  • Collaborative mindset.
  • Strong data analysis skills including data mapping, data cleansing, processing, and researching data problems.
  • Comfortable analyzing and manipulating large data sets (including data mining) and reporting / communicating findings to direct team and internal customers.
  • Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, high attention to detail, and ability to succeed under deliverable time commitments.
  • General knowledge of the basic business functions such as procurement, supply chain, finance, HR, operations, and how they work together.
  • Proficient in using PC-based applications such as Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiar with SAP ECC and Ariba on Demand systems.
  • Working knowledge of Tableau (or similar analytical/visualization tool), and general project management skills.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in business Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience and responsibility in Analyst role.
  • Working knowledge of SAP ECC and Ariba on Demand systems.
  • Expert in Tableau (or similar analytical/visualization/business intelligence tools).
  • Exceptional data analytical skills, proficiency in SQL, Excel, and statistics.
  • Experience in organizations with multi-functional departments and cross-functional work teams.
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain and Procurement data, systems, and best practices.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Work is performed onsite in an office environment
  • Utilizes computer keyboard and monitor to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Climate-controlled office environment. Performs tasks that require sitting, standing, and/or walking.



COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $65,500-$84,888, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
