Overview

Radiation Health is the cornerstone of the Radiological Protection program. It serves as an independent check on the health and performance of the rest of the nuclear enterprise through personnel, area, and environmental monitoring. Radiation Health is the primary contact with our four customers: workers, sailors, public, and the environment.

The Radiation Health Analyst will prepare radiation health reports, assist in the setup/administration of the area monitoring and environmental TLD programs, and assist in emergency response including operation of personnel decontamination facilities at both the Shipyard and Submarine Base, New London.

Responsibilities of the role also include, but are not limited to:

    Support the radiation laboratory in the Shipyard and at the Submarine Base
  • Support of byproduct material compliance program
  • Provide oversight of medical records at both the Shipyard and the Submarine Base
  • Support external and internal dosimetry programs
  • Become a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program approved signatory for our dosimetry program


Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate of Science or technical field
  • Experience in radiological controls
  • Obtain and maintain a security clearance through the U.S. Department of Defense

Preferred:

  • Radiological Health Degree
  • Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience
  • Experience with Gamma Spectroscopy


Skills

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels.
  • Maintain professionalism with all materials and regulatory programs
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects at once with attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Flexible team player willing to do what it takes to get the job done
  • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and proactively by taking the initiative in assigned work and in learning ways to create efficiencies
