We are excited to announce the opening of a new production facility in Columbia, South Carolina, with operations expected to begin by the end of October. With vast inventories at Manchester's 5 strategic locations: Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, South Carolina, and Texas, we maintain 14 precision sheeters, 9 guillotine trimmers, 4 carton packing lines, and 2 slitter rewinders within 450,000 combined square feet of manufacturing and warehousing space.

This role will be at Manchester Industries' new location in Columbia, South Carolina.

We offer competitive starting pay with increases after 6 months and 12 months of employment, with good performance. Shift differential for working 2nd and 3rd shifts. Benefits eligibility as of the 31st day of employment.

What you will do

The Machine Helper is responsible for performing duties as a roll tender or wrapper/bander, assisting Machine Operators in the production of sheeted skids of paperboard. The employee in this position must be able to work with minimal supervision and communicate effectively with both production and office personnel.



  • Responsible for helping in the Wrapper/Bander area for the final phase in the manufacturing process of the product
  • Confirms skids to order and prepares skids for delivery and/or storage in compliance with quality and customer specifications, stages skids for use.
  • Stages completed orders in the warehouse according to job number and customer, in a manner to assure easy retrieval for shipment and proper spacing according to established procedures
  • Properly wraps and bands skids with the proper operation and use of approved tools such as pliers and pallet jacks, responsible for plier set-up
  • Assists other wrapper/banders as necessary, assists in training new Machine Helpers
  • Perform minor maintenance activities and works closely with Maintenance Technician as needed
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment based on preventative maintenance routes/check sheets/frequencies
  • Attend and apply training provided by the Company, both job and department specific
  • Recognize errors and problems with delivered materials, actively troubleshoot top problems, and escalate unresolved issues with a focus to ensure inventory accuracy and receipt of goods
  • Confirming rolls to order and preparing rolls for use, including the preparation of leftover rolls to return to inventory and storage
  • Load rolls into roll stand, splice rolls as needed
  • Responsible for the core splitter operation
  • Assists other Roll Tenders as necessary, assists in the training of new Machine Helpers
  • Perform minor maintenance activities and works closely with Maintenance Technician as needed
  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment based on preventative maintenance routes/check sheets/frequencies
  • Attend and apply training provided by the Company, both job and department specific
  • Recognize errors and problems with delivered materials, actively troubleshoot top problems, and escalate unresolved issues with a focus to ensure inventory accuracy and receipt of goods
  • Hold self and others to a high level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, safe driving practices, appropriate PPE, etc.)
  • Participate as needed in safety incidents and help investigate the root cause.
  • Maintain a clean working environment by complying with procedures and housekeeping responsibilities, and properly disposing of waste.
  • Operate, maintain, and inspect equipment to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, procedural reporting, and safety requirements
  • Act in a manner consistent with company values and attitudes


What you will need

To be successful in this position, we are looking for candidates with the following:



  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)
  • Minimum 2 years continuous full-time work experience or have been a full-time student (required)
  • Industrial production or operator experience (preferred)
  • Understand and comply with all manufacturing safety procedures including personal protective equipment (required)
  • Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping, tripping, and falling hazards
  • Physically capable of manual labor that includes bending, walking, sitting, and climbing in and around machinery and equipment for an entire 12-hour shift.
  • Able to lift, up to 40 lbs frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs occasionally, and over 50 lbs minimally. When lifting 50 lbs and above, the Operator will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance.
  • Work environment includes exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid.
  • Able to work an 8-hour shift Monday-Friday. Able to work overtime as needed, including weekends and Holidays.
