Missouri Defense and Energy Institute (MIDE) in the Office of Strategic Initiatives (OSIN) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).

Job Description

The department of MIDE is looking for a Business Operations Associate II to assist with fiscal and administrative duties in a research environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support grants and contracts under MIDE
  • Manage and track budgets for these awards
  • Send bi-weekly updates on awards for reporting
  • Set up budgets for any new awards, or additional funding / modifications to current award
  • Submit requisitions as needed for major purchases (over $5,000)
  • Review and approve expense reports
  • Review and approve travel requests
  • Process any journal entries as needed on these awards
  • Submit consulting / speaker agreements as needed
  • Scholarship / tuition submissions and tracking
  • Work with sponsored projects team of as needed to support awards from start to closing, and help with any reporting, invoicing tracking, and close out
  • Assist in developing new budgets as needed/requested for proposals
  • Assist with any subaward requests to outside organizations/companies
  • Work with HR and partnering units to submit summer salaries for PIs
  • Effort Verification Oversight (through ORI)
  • Capital equipment management support
  • Back up to BSS II / MIDE admin on purchases under $5,000
  • Collaborate as needed with HR on hiring needs
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is 100% grant funded.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Ability to acquire and maintain a security clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated professional experience with accounting responsibilities
  • Demonstrated professional experience with monthly financial reporting, journal entries, requisition/PO entry, preparing contracts/subcontracts
  • Demonstrated experience with Peoplesoft, Banner, SIS Financials, and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience with pre-award and post-award support, budget development and forecasting
  • Demonstrated professional experience DOD Contracting and Federal Regulations
Anticipated Hiring Range

Commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
