Read further to learn how you could help make great things possible not only in your community, but around the world. HDR is looking for a Bridges and Structures Section Manager in South Carolina. This position may be based out of one of the following SC office locations: Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, or Fort Mill. The South Carolina Bridges and Structures Section Manager will be responsible for operations of a production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support. They will function as a project manager in addition to being administratively responsible for the section staff and technical service functions which will also involve leading and coordinating services with other sections. They will be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews, not only in South Carolina but also other in other Areas, particularly North Carolina and Georgia, as qualifications and schedules match. The South Carolina Bridges and Structures Section Manager will see that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through a pro-active project management system, and subsequently implement, monitor and support company policy. Finally, they will also select, train, and develop technical personnel, and work cooperatively with Area leadership, National Directors, and marketing in local and national marketing and production efforts On a day to day basis, they'll be expected to:
- Coordinate with our South Carolina Area Structures Office Leads to balance staff workload, provide/identify staff training opportunities, and identify/pursue business development opportunities.
- Lead multi-disciplined transportation design teams as a Project Manager or Task Lead for local and workshare projects.
- Lead technical design for DOT and local agency highway bridges, along with bridge load ratings.
- Mentor less-experienced staff. You will be viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design with a proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects.
- See that Bridge work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through proactive project management system.
- Be responsible for preparing/reviewing the project budgets for the Bridge design section and tracking budget status.
- Independently coordinate work of engineers and balance the project delivery team throughout entire project development.
- Conduct analyses, develop design solutions, and prepare design drawings, calculations, and specifications for bridge engineering projects, including checking calculations and designs done by others.
- Lead the development and review of proposals, project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Establish client relations and be involved with marketing and proposal development, contractual matters, design, and production meetings.
- Perform quality control reviews of Bridge design projects.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- PE in South Carolina or ability to obtain within six months of hire
- Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects
- Experience using Microstation, Mathcad, LARSA 4D (or similar structural analysis software), and typical structural analysis programs and bridge design software used in the industry
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the LRFD Bridge Design Code
- Must be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design and have proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects
- Enjoys mentoring and teaching other staff
- Ability to handle multiple assignments
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering
- Prior experience working on SCDOT projects
- PMP certification
- Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 10 years related experience
- A minimum 5 years project management experience

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example:
Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license. - MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be plus)
- Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
