About The Position

The Engineer is responsible for providing technical guidance for Ameren Missouri's distributed energy resource (DER) interconnection requests as well as performing the relevant studies. The Engineer will be innovative and stay abreast of industry trends and new smart grid technologies that could benefit the distribution system as the DER connections continue and increase. The Engineer will perform DER evaluations and analysis working closely with Distribution Operating as well as with a cross functional team including the DER Integration Project Manager, Division Engineering, Distribution & Transmission System Planning, System Protection, Substation Design, Renewable Energy Service, Renewable Business Development and Tech Services, Project Design Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance workgroups to ensure reliability and resiliency of the Ameren distribution system.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform DER interconnection studies at primary voltages (Synergi) & subtransmission voltages (PSSE), evaluating power flow, stability, reliability, and power quality.

  • Accurately model, evaluate, and maintain system planning models to be used for DER integration studies.

  • Develop and maintain expertise in using computer modeling techniques to perform power flow, Distributed Energy Resources hosting capacity, and power quality assessments for Ameren's electric distribution system.

  • Create and compile the final interconnection report gathering all Ameren internal stakeholder's results and input.

  • Develop Curtailment plan, operating alarm set point guidance, and curtailment report which will serve as a reference for responding to various contingency conditions on the electric distribution system. Periodically review and update plans, set points, and reports based on system upgrades and changes.

  • Research and evaluate new industry developments and best practices to implement into DER Integration processes and procedures, including recommendations from EEI, IEEE, and EPRI.

  • Stay current on developing Inverter Based Resource rules and regulations, including from NERC and FERC; and update the Ameren Interconnection Process documentation to align with the latest regulations.

  • Assist in DER project technical negotiations and discussions with external and internal developers.

  • Provide support to operating groups in response to specific contingency conditions, including the impact of planned facility outages.

  • Participate in the restoration of electric service during major storm response efforts by serving in a support role, such as a Damage Assessor to perform site assessment duties.

  • Participate in research activities as needed.

  • Support the subtransmission planning team during high volume work times by performing load flow studies and economic development requests.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university required, Electrical preferred. Professional Engineer License, or an active commitment to obtain one, is preferred. Three or more years power system analysis or related fields preferred. Knowledge of PSS/E, Synergi, or other power flow software is preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

Must possess good analytical, decision making, verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders to reach consensus. Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft suite of products (e.g., Word, Excel and Outlook) as well as with ADMS, Map Viewer and Load Analysis software applications. The successful applicant must also possess initiative and a sense of ownership / pride over their responsibility in their areas of responsibility.

Compensation Range:

$69,300.00 - $133,900.00

* This pay range encompasses multiple levels of the role. Career level and compensation depends upon applicant's credentials.

At Ameren, base salary is one component of a competitive compensation package for employees. Our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance.
