Trade Compliance Specialist

As a Trade Compliance Specialist your goal is to ensure that the correct method of valuation is applied to all products and that all elements of value prescribed by statute are included in the value reported to the customs authorities. #LI-MD1 #LI-Hybrid

You will do this by:

  • Assigning tariff classification of product using knowledge of the international Harmonized Tariff System (HTS), and detailed legal analysis of the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI), Customs rulings and practices
  • Designing and assisting in the implementation of legal compliance programs designed to ensure and document the exercise of reasonable care
  • Processing sample transactions, assisting with process improvements and corrective actions, documenting procedures, and assisting with a Customs Compliance Audit
  • Preparing and sending out a certificate of origin package to each supplier; providing technical assistance to aid in their completion; reviewing the certificates for accuracy and validity and providing regular reporting
  • Conducting post-entry audits to ensure that all import transactions meet customs requirements
  • Identifying areas of non-compliance and implements practical solutions to improve compliance efforts
  • Assisting with application for certification under Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) and implementing best practices

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field OR equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum of three years of customs compliance and import/export operational experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience classifying engine components
  • SAP Experience

Additional Knowledge & Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to effectively deal with a diverse group of people
  • Experience in classification, including: Knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and the ability to apply the GRI's, research and interpret customs rulings, Informed Compliance Publications, and other guidelines for proper classification
  • Detail oriented, with excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, communication skills and global mindset
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels
  • Self-motivated with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple time-sensitive tasks
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location
