Recreation Assistant - Parks


Full-time, Hourly


Hourly Range: $16.70 - $25.05 /hr



Closing Date - August 24, 2025 or sooner upon receiving 50 applications



Job Summary: The Recreation Assistant works with the Organized Sports Manager, Sports Complex Manager & Wilson Ice Manager in the Recreation division. The duties include assisting in the development, planning, and implementation of sports programs for the Milwaukee County community. This includes day to day operations: scheduling, communications, revision & updating of forms, applications, procedures; bookkeeping tasks and other duties.



Job Responsibilities



  • Programming, Scheduling & Clerical Support - Assists in organizing, scheduling & maintaining sports & recreational activities; coordinating & scheduling of facilities with department staff, other agencies & organizations; provides clerical support in answering phones & responding to e-mails, assisting customers.


  • Public Relations - Assists in responding to & reporting difficult & sensitive citizen inquiries & complaints; league suspensions.


  • Development & Training - Assists with developing marketing/promotional ideas & campaigns for athletic programs; training all athletic officials & interns; assists in payroll tracking



Required Education, License/Certification and Experience



  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Associate's degree in Recreation
  • At least 1 year or more work experience working in Recreation setting only.
  • additional at least 3 years of experience in recreation setting equal to degree



Additional Comments:



  • Working knowledge of recreation programs and their management; working knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports; working knowledge of modern office and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Ability to work night shifts; ability to work weekends; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of recreation program and their management.
