Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for using social media to connect, engage, and inspire? The Office of Admissions is seeking a Social Media Strategist to help share the Ball State experience with prospective students. In this role, you'll lead the development and execution of impactful content and campaigns across a variety of platforms-helping to elevate our digital presence and support our recruitment goals. What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function

The Videographer is responsible for producing compelling video content that attracts prospective students, enhances recruitment efforts, and showcases the Ball State experience. This role requires a highly creative and skilled individual with expertise in all aspects of video production, from concept development and filming to editing and post-production. The Videographer will collaborate closely with the Admissions Communications team as well as campus partners to develop and execute video strategies that align with the University's enrollment goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Plan, film, and edit dynamic and engaging video content that supports student recruitment and enrollment goals. Collaborate with internal teams and campus partners to develop storyboards and creative concepts tailored for various platforms, including the University website, email campaigns, and presentations. Manage the entire production process-from pre-production planning and on-site filming to post-production editing-ensuring content is visually compelling, brand-aligned, and optimized for target audiences.

2. Coordinate and conduct on-location video shoots that authentically capture the spirit and experience of Ball State University. Take the lead in directing scenes, conducting interviews, and filming engaging footage that highlights campus life, academic programs, student stories, and university events. Work closely with students, faculty, and staff to ensure each shoot reflects the University's brand and values. Manage all aspects of on-site production, including setup, lighting, sound, and logistics, to produce high-quality visuals that support recruitment and engagement efforts.

3. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot professional video production equipment, including cameras, lighting setups, audio recording devices, and related gear. Ensure all equipment is functioning optimally for on-location shoots.

4. Develop creative concepts, storyboards, and scripts that clearly communicate Ball State University's brand and support Admissions recruitment goals. Ensure all content aligns with university messaging and effectively engages prospective students and their families.

5. Utilize Adobe software to efficiently edit and refine video footage. Transform raw video into polished, high-quality final products by creatively incorporating a variety of elements, including dynamic graphics, custom animations, background music, voiceovers, and sound effects. Demonstrates a keen eye for detail, ensuring smooth transitions, precise synchronization of audio and visual components, and a seamless flow that captivates and engages the audience.

6. Maintain a well-organized and easily accessible digital asset library, ensuring that all video footage, audio files, graphics, animations, and related materials are properly categorized and stored, including using clear and consistent naming conventions to streamline the retrieval process and improve workflow efficiency.

7. Manage and organize multiple video projects simultaneously, adhering to schedules and deadlines. Maintain clear communication and provide regular updates on project progress, challenges, and milestones. Proactively address issues and ensure all stakeholders are informed of any necessary changes or feedback, ensuring smooth and timely delivery of high-quality content.

8. Stay current of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in video production, particularly within higher education marketing. Proactively recommend and implement innovative creative strategies to position Ball State University as a leader in visual storytelling and digital engagement.

9. Attend Admissions events, campus activities, and student- functions, such as athletic events and homecoming to capture engaging video content that showcases the university's vibrant community and student life. Requires flexible hours with some evening and weekend work.

10. Collaborate with and mentor student interns, providing guidance and training in video production techniques, equipment use, and content creation. Support their development by offering constructive feedback and fostering a positive learning environment, while ensuring the quality and consistency of all video projects.

11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

At least 2+ years of professional experience in video production, preferably in a higher education or marketing setting.

Proven expertise in video production, including filming, editing, and post-production. Proficiency in video editing software, preferably Adobe Premiere Pro. Comprehensive knowledge of production equipment, including cameras, mics, and lighting.

Strong storytelling and visual communication skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in media, communications, marketing, or a related field.

Three or more years professional video production experience in a university environment. Experience with motion graphics and animation. Knowledge of web video platforms and social media video formats. Photography skills.
