Penetration Tester - Aircraft and Weapons

LOCATION: Eglin AFB, FL

JOB STATUS: Full-time

CLEARANCE: Secret

CERTIFICATION: In accordance with DoD 8140 and AFMan 17-305

TRAVEL: 30%

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Aircraft and Weapons Penetration Tester supporting the 96 CTG / 48 CTS, Eglin AFB, FL.

Our cybersecurity test team is searching for new members that can help us conduct system security analysis on systems and/or software to understand and identify vulnerabilities.

We realize that no one will have all of these qualifications. We are looking for people that can bring a strong foundation in one of the listed areas and are motivated to learn the others. Position responsibilities can span from test management to compliance testing to penetration testing, depending on skillset.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Technical bachelor's degree and up to 3 years of relevant experience. *Additional experience may be substituted for education.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance - (Single Scope Background Investigation).
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Cybersecurity job experience.
  • Cyber penetration test experience.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Understanding of network security/engineering.
  • Demonstrated good organization, decision making, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent self-initiative and self-motivation with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in small and large team settings to solve complex problems.
  • Significant knowledge of Windows and Linux (including Kali) Operating Systems.
  • Experience using modern penetration testing tools and methods.
  • Travel up to 15-20 weeks per year, potentially to worldwide sites.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Knowledge of Aircraft and/or Weapons architecture/avionics.
  • Knowledge of common wired and wireless network protocol structures.
  • Experience with aircraft, avionics, and/or munitions testing and evaluation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Junior Penetration Tester, you will support senior testers and engineers in all phases of penetration testing, including:

  1. Reconnaissance & Enumeration

    • Gather information on networks, systems, and applications using approved tools and techniques (e.g., Nmap, Wireshark, Burp Suite).

    • Identify open ports, services, and potential attack vectors.

  2. Vulnerability Analysis

    • Assist in analyzing discovered services, configurations, and software for known vulnerabilities.

    • Research and validate potential security weaknesses.

  3. Exploitation (Under Guidance)

    • Support execution of safe, controlled exploitation of systems and applications.

    • Document successful exploits and maintain reproducibility.

  4. Post-Exploitation & Impact Analysis

    • Observe and support controlled activities to determine the potential impact of a vulnerability.

    • Help assess risk to aircraft, weapons, and supporting systems.

  5. Reporting & Communication

    • Document and communicate test results effectively to technical and non-technical user groups in both written and oral formats.

    • Contribute to technical documentation of findings, including evidence and remediation recommendations.

  6. Continuous Learning & Tool Development

    • Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and penetration testing tools.

    • Support development of scripts, automation, and custom tools for testing.
