Job Purpose

To meet the increasing demand for advanced energy storage solutions and ensure technical excellence across our lines of business (LOBs), we are seeking a Consulting Product Engineer dedicated to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This senior-level role provides technical leadership in the design, specification, and integration of BESS technologies, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability. The successful candidate will be a trusted technical advisor and innovator, shaping our energy storage strategy and enabling market leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • BESS Sizing and Requirements Definition
  • Lead the development of comprehensive BESS sizing criteria, including energy capacity (kWh), power output (kW), and lifecycle performance (e.g., degradation rates, cycle life, calendar life).
  • Establish tolerancing methodologies to address environmental variability, aging effects, and operational uncertainties.
  • System-Level Integration
  • Oversee the integration of BESS with Power Conversion Systems (PCS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) to ensure compatibility, efficiency, and robust control strategies.
  • Define and validate interface specifications, communication protocols, and system-level performance metrics.
  • Technical Strategy and Innovation
  • Guide the selection and evaluation of battery technologies and architectures aligned with project requirements and long-term sustainability goals.
  • Drive innovation in system modeling, simulation, and validation to support design optimization and risk mitigation.
  • Governance and Compliance
  • Ensure all BESS designs meet safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Lead technical reviews and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential failure modes and integration challenges.

  • Enhance project execution by aligning technical decisions with business objectives and operational realities.
  • Support long-term reliability and cost-effectiveness of energy storage deployments through rigorous engineering oversight.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field; PhD preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in energy storage, battery technology, or related engineering fields.
  • Proven expertise in BESS design, integration, and performance optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of PCS, EMS, and grid interconnection requirements.
  • Familiarity with safety standards (UL, IEC, IEEE, NFPA) and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical teams and drive innovation.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
