The Department of Chemistry

Job Description

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Missouri invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral research position in Dr. Kristin Hutchins' research group (https://hutchinsgroup.wixsite.com/materials).

Dr. Hutchins is seeking a motivated and independent postdoctoral research fellow. The postdoctoral scholar will be responsible for the design and execution of experiments related to the core research interests of the Hutchins group. Specifically, these areas include: 1) designing stimuli-responsive organic solid-state materials, 2) improving properties of pharmaceutical solids through cocrystallization, 3) use of mechanochemistry in synthesis and crystallization, and 4) synthesis and characterization of supramolecular materials for separations. Routine tasks will include safe performance or organic synthesis, cocrystallization, and materials characterization (x-ray diffraction, spectroscopy, and thermal). The position offers significant resources for professional development.

The postdoctoral researcher will be conducting research design, experiments, data analysis and interpretation, presentations at conferences and other meetings, preparing materials for grant reports, and manuscript writing. They will also engage in mentorship of graduate/undergraduate students in the group as appropriate.

Qualifications

A PhD in Chemistry or a directly related field is required by the start of the appointment. Candidates that have completed all degree requirements for their PhD, but the degree has not yet been conferred, will also be considered. The successful candidate will have a background in organic/materials chemistry, good communication and presentation skills, and an ability to work within a research group. Experience with single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction methods is preferable.

Application Materials

Applicants must include a cover letter, description of research experiences and interests, and a full CV including list of publications and references.

Application Deadline

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, but applications received by September 31, 2025 will receive the best consideration. Expected start date is November 1, 2025.

Applicants may contact Dr. Kristin Hutchins (kristin.hutchins@missouri.edu) with questions about the job duties. Contact Talia Gholson (gholsont@missouri.edu) for any questions about the application process.
