Job Description:

Microchip Technology Inc. has a Technical Staff Engineer-Applications opening based in Addison, Texas. Microchip is a major supplier of low-power and highly reliable field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), a type of programmable logic chip. Our FPGAs are used in a wide variety of applications, including embedded vision; digital signal processing; machine learning; industrial and medical equipment; and satellites. Microchip is also a pioneer in embedding RiscV processors in FPGAs. This position is in the Solutions Development team of Microchip's FPGA Division and the successful applicant will work as part of a core team that develops future FPGA fabric architectures and collaborates with the design engineers to develop, verify, and integrate the fabric architecture with other device components such as IO, hard IP blocks, configuration, and security.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect and Develop Microchip FPGA based solutions that support a wide range of applications across communications, industrial, and aerospace

  • Develop example FPGA application benchmarks, either by coding them in RTL, using state-of-the-art high-level synthesis tools, or developing algorithms to generate them automatically

  • Work with various groups across the company, including Marketing, Software Engineering, Circuit Design to come up with innovative FPGA solutions that will grow our market reach and Microchip FPGA adoption. This broad organizational exposure will provide an unusual opportunity for learning and advancement.

  • Work with global teams to help drive successful execution of Microchip FPGA solutions

  • Collaborate with Aerospace and Defense customers on potentially ITAR-related projects, providing support in resolving complex FPGA design challenges, including RTL debugging, high-speed transceiver analysis, and board-level diagnostics

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering

  • US Citizenship or permanent residency status

  • 12.5+ years of relevant work experience in programmable architectures, applications implementation, or other relevant experience with a BS degree

  • Practical coding experience in Verilog/VHDL, Python, or C/C++, demonstrated in prior work experience

  • Clear understanding of digital logic design concepts, developing functional simulation test benches at both system level and block level, developing timing constraints and closing timing, designing circuits for low power

  • Ability to read board level schematics and working with various lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic/bus analyzers

  • Collaborative approach with the ability to build strong and deep relationships both within the team and across the organization to drive results

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This senior role will have influence over future solutions development and so experience in FPGA or ASIC based Systems Design is a desirable prerequisite
