Qualifications

Education and Experience: Experience equivalent to one year of combined bartending/food service experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

1.TIPS or ServSafe and Alcohol

2. ServSafe Food Safety

Overview

Summary: Under general supervision, performs lead and training duties in facilities responsible for serving food and preparing alcoholic beverages for patrons in a state park restaurant, and other work as required.

Distinguishing Features: This classification is responsible for leading and training Tennessee State Parks employees performing various alcoholic beverage serving, and food serving duties. This classification will also serve dining patrons in the restaurant by presenting menus to diners, suggesting dinner courses, suggesting wines or other beverages, answering questions regarding food preparation, taking food orders, making proper use of point-of-sale system, and bringing food from the kitchen to the dining tables. Serves patrons during banquets by assisting in the preparation of the facility and provides continual service within a banquet environment. This classification differs from TSP Bartender in that the latter does not provide training to staff within the restaurant.

Responsibilities


  1. In the restaurant or lounge, serves dining patrons by presenting menu to diners, suggesting dinner courses, appropriate wines or other beverages, answering questions regarding food preparation, taking food orders, making proper use of the point-of-sale system, and bringing food from the kitchen to the dining tables.
  2. Responsible for the training and leading of the bartending staff in a Tennessee State Parks restaurant or lounge, and banquet settings,
  3. Prepares alcoholic beverages based on recipes and customer requests. Controls the amount of alcohol served both in the preparation of recipes to control beverage costs and to ensure customers are not overserved.
  4. In the restaurant or lounge, becomes informed of daily/weekly specials and can explain all menu items and methods of cooking/preparation to the customers as requested.
  5. In the restaurant or lounge, assists in cleaning restaurant, and vacuums the floor.
  6. In the restaurant or lounge, computes bill and accepts payment; tracks sales receipts; receives change from cashier and returns change promptly to guest.
  7. For banquets, serves menu items to guests in a prompt and courteous manner and according to the banquet event order; times the service of courses to correspond with the dining pace of the guests.
  8. For banquets, prepares and serves alcoholic beverages based on recipes or established pouring procedures.
  9. For banquets, assist with setting up tables for banquets and parties, assists in decorating space for thematic events as appropriate. Then, clears room at end of banquet of all props and centerpieces and properly returns to storage.
  10. At all times, promotes beverage sales through knowledge of cocktails, beer, and wine availability.
  11. At all times, clears table after service. Removes trays of dirty dishes, silverware and glassware to kitchen for cleaning.
