What you'll do:

We are seeking a Principal Business Analyst - Software Asset Management (SAM) to play a critical role in shaping and executing our enterprise software asset management strategy. This role will focus on implementing and maturing processes, workflows, and governance structures to ensure compliance, cost optimization, and lifecycle management for all software assets across the organization.
This individual will work across multiple functions including purchasing, compliance, IT operations, cybersecurity, finance, and platform teams, ensuring end-to-end lifecycle management of technology assets. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in ServiceNow Software Asset Management Pro (SAM Pro) and have a strong background in licensing, entitlements, compliance, and software lifecycle processes. This is a key role in driving operational excellence, reducing software risk, and enabling effective decision-making through accurate data and reporting.
  • Design, implement, and maintain standardized software asset management processes for onboarding, procurement, usage, renewal, and retirement.
  • Ensure governance and operational structures are followed, aligned to regulatory and audit requirements and continuously improve process and controls.
  • Partner with IT, procurement, finance, and legal to align SAM lifecycle with enterprise contract and procurement processes.
  • Manage license allocations, usage, and optimization across the enterprise while ensuring compliance with the licensing agreements.
  • Maintain entitlements within ServiceNow SAM Pro and reconcile against installed/discovered software while proactively identifying risk.
  • Identify and remediate unauthorized or unsupported software installations.
  • Drive compliance reporting and remediation efforts for regulatory and audit purposes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between IT, security, procurement, finance, and business units for software asset management.
  • Engage with software owners and application owners to establish accountability for category-based ownership.
  • Support audits, regulatory reviews, and business reporting through accurate SAM data and insights.

What you'll need:

  • 8+ years of experience in IT Asset Management, Configuration Management, or a related IT governance or operations role.related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Proven experience with ServiceNow (particularly CMDB, HAM Pro, SAM Pro modules).
  • Strong understanding of ITAM lifecycle processes (procurement, deployment, inventory, support, disposal).
  • Familiarity with regulatory and audit requirements impacting asset and configuration data management (e.g., FFIEC, SOX, internal controls).
  • Demonstrated experience in translating operational needs into system requirements and enhancements.
  • Experience supporting or participating in audits and control testing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain documentation, reports, and process artifacts.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced to expert in process and data analysis within one or two domains or functional areas with deep critical thinking skills.
  • Experience working as a SME across one or two domains or functional areas.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
  • Occasional travel required.

Preferred:

  • ITIL, CSAM, or SAM certifications.
  • Experience in a financial services or regulated industry environment.
  • Background supporting change management or organizational adoption efforts.
