This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a mission-driven financial professional to shape the future of a historic institution.

Fort Scott Community College is the oldest community college in Kansas and remains deeply committed to student success, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement. As the CFO, you'll be a key leader overseeing all financial operations for the college - including budget development, compliance, reporting, procurement, and supervision of the business office. This is a strategic role with high visibility and direct impact on the institution's stability and growth.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $105,000.

A bit more about the role:

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Chief Financial Officer & VP of Finance and Operations is responsible for the college's fiscal affairs and financial strategy. This includes direct oversight of the business office and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal statutes and regulations. The CFO will serve as a key advisor to the President and Administrative Council on the institution's financial health and will also play a vital role in grant reporting, insurance management, and contract negotiations.

Key Responsibilities:

    Prepare and coordinate all budgetary and financial procedures
  • Monitor the college's financial position and provide updates to leadership
  • Oversee business office operations
  • Manage competitive procurement processes
  • Coordinate budget reporting for grants and other key areas
  • Oversee liability insurance programs
  • Serve on the Board/Administration negotiating team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree and/or CPA preferred
  • Significant experience with computerized financial systems, ideally in a community college setting
  • Strong management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the public
