Mechanic Bus Driver

The Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School has the following open vacancy for the 2025-2026 school year.Mechanic/Bus Driver - Full-time, CDL-B with P&S Endorsement License (will train); prior experience with repair and maintenance of school buses; understanding of DOT regulations and inspections. Starting salary of $50,000 (commensurate with experience).The School Bus Driver/Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students while also maintaining and repairing district vehicles. This dual role involves operating a school bus on assigned routes, following all traffic laws, and ensuring the safety of students during loading, transport, and unloading. In addition to driving duties, the Bus Driver/Mechanic performs routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and necessary repairs on buses and related equipment to keep them in safe working condition. Responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical issues, completing work orders, maintaining accurate service records, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. Strong communication skills are essential to interact with students, parents, staff, and transportation supervisors. The ideal candidate demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, and mechanical expertise, while prioritizing student safety at all times.
