Location: Conroe, TX Brief Description: The Drilling Applications Engineer is career development position that provides high visibility in the organization with the responsibility of becoming a drilling data expert and acting as primary support to increase the value of MSD services, through data analytics, process, and performance improvements. Collaborating with internal stakeholders and experts to support continuous improvement projects and create new tools to monitor and improve overall operations, brainstorming innovative ideas or drilling solutions to our customers, which will assist in optimizing our operational performance. This role performs under the general direction of the Drilling Engineering Lead. Detailed Description:
- Support internal teams, such as drilling operations, sales, engineering, and management by providing data, analytics.
- Interface directly with all stakeholders, both internally and externally, to act as a driver for performance optimization initiatives for customers' drilling programs as well as for MS Directional processes, tools, and equipment.
- Produce and analyze large datasets and develop drilling visuals and reports in software tools like Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI etc. to effectively communicate critical information to all stakeholders.
- Review, analyze, and manage drilling data to propose improved drilling parameters, identify areas to enhance performance, and aid in tool forensic analysis while continuing to focus on quality and safety.
- Manage and aid in the preparation of business performance reviews for key customers and deliver professional presentations directly to customers when required.
- Assist the sales teams with technical information of MSD products and services for bid and tenders.
- Conduct pre-job, post-well analysis, summary of well, well's scorecards, and other KPIs as required.
- Regularly monitor KPIs to track progress and make necessary adjustments.
- Work directly with customers at varying levels of their organization, coordinate and align with their own goals and performance initiatives and respond to requests for data and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assist with the development of a company-wide repository of lessons learned, best practices and process improvement documents.
- Review, recommend and apply new technology where appropriate.
- Handle special projects as needed.
Job Requirements
- Work effectively with multiple divisions within the organization, including operations, sales, and engineering.
- Able to analyze and understand trends in complex data sets from different sources, captured through methods such as EDR, drilling software, etc. and apply them to MSD products and processes to identify key trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Able to complete training and development activities as assigned by the career development plan.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to meet challenging deadlines.
- Able to learn the details of MSD technologies and services and our customers' drilling programs quickly and meticulously.
- Build engaging relationships at all levels of the organization as well as with customers.
- Able to think critically and translate concepts into action plans and track results.
- Excellent verbal and written English Language communication with employees, customers, and third parties at all levels.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Python, and other business operations systems such as Innova, Power BI, and Electronic Drilling Recorder.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Eligible to drive Company or personal vehicle for Company purposes including the ability to meet requirements of the Company's Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in oil and gas industry preferred
- Fluent in the use of EDR and other systems used for drilling performance analysis.
- Experience with databases and supplementary optimization analyses such as Torque & Drag, Hydraulics, BHA modeling, MSE calculations, etc.
- Rig experience is a plus.
Work Environment This position requires the person to be able to work in a time-sensitive, high-visibility role and travel as needed to visit and/or support business units, clients, and work sites. Some extended travel may be required to remote locations and/or overnight stay(s). The person must work with an emphasis on planning, multi-tasking, and prioritizing to maximize the efficiency of the team. The person must be able to work both independently and closely with others and manage customer interaction in a positive and professional manner. They must safely navigate work sites by walking, climbing, standing, stepping, etc., during normal operating conditions (e.g., day/night, outdoor hot/cold weather, etc.) while utilizing designated personal protective equipment (PPE), and be able to lift at least 50 pounds of weight. They must be able to actively manage the dynamics of a 24/7 operation.
