NOTE:

  • This is an overnight position with a schedule of Tuesday to Friday (into Saturday) 10 pm to 8:30 am.
  • While the full salary range is listed above, the anticipated hiring range for this position will be $25.89 - $32.36 per hour.

The Judicial Services Pre-Trial Officer, Overnight position promotes public safety by performing tasks associated with the supervision of criminal defendants who are ordered by the court to be supervised in the community while on bond. Perform a variety of duties associated with monitoring criminal defendants who have been ordered by the Court to be on GPS monitoring as a condition of bond. Evaluates potential GPS violations, and responds to GPS violations in accordance with policy and procedure. This includes contacting law enforcement to respond to emergency situations, keeping the District Attorney's Office Domestic Violence Unit informed of critical situations and filing motions to revoke bond when warranted. This is an overnight position, primarily Tuesday through Friday 10pm to 8:30am. This position allows for working mostly remotely from home after initial training. In-office work will be required as business needs dictate.

Duties

  • Monitor high-risk defendants ordered by the court and placed on enhanced supervision including electronic home monitoring and GPS.
  • Respond to potential GPS violations that may include contacting alleged victims to notify them of critical situations, contacting law enforcement to respond to emergency situations or to request welfare checks, informing the District Attorney's Office Domestic Violence Unit of critical situations.
  • Reporting to local jails, primarily the Arapahoe County jail, to install GPS devices on defendants as needed.
  • Monitor the Pretrial Services in-custody list.
  • Assist the GPS Case Management Unit with updating offender and victim information.
  • Assist with bond reports for first advisement hearings.
  • Maintain an administrative caseload of pretrial defendants
  • Serves as a Court-appointed Bond Commissioner and makes recommendations to judges that bond be revoked on subsequent arrest or problem clients when there is imminent danger to the community.

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Knowledge and some experience of the criminal justice system and court procedures.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Working knowledge of interviewing and case management techniques.
  • Working knowledge and experience in a variety of PC software such as Microsoft Office and Salesforce products.
  • Experience working in an accurate, independent organized manner.
  • Communication: Must be able to adequately address issues and problems through effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Experience in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with department heads, professional peers, supervisors, other employees, defendants and the general public.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain moderately complex clerical records, reports, and filing system.
  • Ability to make good decision independently based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgement. Uses effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to take responsibility for all work activities and personal actions; acknowledges and learns from mistakes without blaming others; recognizes the impact of one's behavior on others.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work activities so that work is completed thoroughly, accurately and efficiently. Excellent time management skills are required.
  • Ability to develop cooperation and teamwork while participating in a group, working with and through others toward a solution.
  • Attendance and punctuality is essential to being a successful Pretrial Officer.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, public administration or related field.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working in the criminal justice or social services environment
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Supplemental Information

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing with includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) check and background check.
Post-Employment Additional Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid Class "R" Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office. Travel to the satellite offices, community corrections programs, or other specified location may be required as business needs dictate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • In home office environment spends 90% of each day sitting and another 10% either walking or standing.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as the telephone and computer email system.
  • Constant use of hand, finger, and eye coordination enabling operation of office and field equipment.
  • Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work related equipment.
Definitions:
Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
