Estimated hourly base rate:

Level 2: $25.81 (minimum) $32.26 (midpoint) $38.71 (maximum)

Level 3: $30.19 (minimum) $37.74 (midpoint) $45.29 (maximum)

Are you ready to make your mark? If you are an experienced Mechanical Designer, we have an exciting opportunity for you! This position is for a Mechanical Designer to support Assembly and Test (A&T) processes with tool design and development. Specific projects include developing assembly fixtures, developing test stands, sourcing tools for material handling, process improvement and automation with focuses on safety, Poka-Yoke, and expanding capabilities for new products, processes, equipment as well as enhancing existing processes.

What you will be doing...

  • Working with operations process engineers to create tooling to enable assembly processes (manual assembly, picking, pressing, crimping, guarding, torquing, testing) for new products and processes.
  • Working with EHS and process teams to improve the safety and capability of existing processes through tooling, material handling, etc.
  • Working with test engineering teams to develop test stands to safely, reliably gather data related to products as well as improve existing test equipment.
  • Working with quality engineers and analysts to ensure assembly and test tooling meets customer requirements.
  • Working with New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to design and/or modify existing tooling to accommodate new products.
  • Collaborate across functions including Operations, EHS, Test, Quality, NPI, etc.
  • Mentor junior designers in doing all the above.

What we are looking for...

  • An understanding of manufacturing, assembly and test processes and an ability to learn new ones.
  • Ability to conceptualize and design 3D models of parts, assemblies, fixtures and tooling (We use CREO).
  • An understanding of Product Lifecycle Management tools (We use Windchill).
  • An ability to understand and apply Geometric Dimension & Tolerancing.
  • An ability to understand and apply tolerance stack-ups.
  • An understanding of Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), design for automation, Poka-Yoke and best, safe-practices for assembly and test.
  • The ability to work within a cross functional team, communicate well, and convey concepts clearly.

Level 2:

  • Some vocational, college level courses, 2-year degree, technical certificate or applicable experience
  • Less than 2 years with MCAD drafting experience, general machining, fabrication, and manufacturing knowledge

Level 3:

  • 2 year technical degree, certificate, or applicable experience. Continuing education as it relates to the position required
  • 5 plus years of Designer experience or combination of Bachelors degree or International equivalent and experience
