Description

Trident Seafoods is the largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company in North America. Directs and oversees the activities of the engine room regarding the mechanical operations, repair and maintenance functions for the vessel by performing the following duties personally:

Essential Functions:

  1. Directs and oversees the functionality and safety of the vessel's engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration and sanitary systems in accordance with Trident policy and local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  2. Oversees and establishes the performance and operation standards for all vessel systems. Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  3. Must be able to give specific directions in the case of an emergency. Can include launching a raft, donning an immersion suit or life preserver, assist in a response to fire or flooding.
  4. Directs and oversees required documentation for energy management, conservations and preventativemaintenance programs.
  5. Confers with Captain and management to determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness of present or future projects.
  6. Oversees theimplementation of training to ensure that all vessel engineering staff are properly trained, qualified and in compliance with regulatory training and/or regulatory certification requirements.
  7. Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, and/or inter-departmental relations.
  8. Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements: Must holda valid USCG Chief Engineer License with minimum 3000HP plus STCW endorsement(RFPEW; OICEW).

Preferred Experience:

Processing vessels:

  1. Three years as licensed Chief Engineer of a processing vessel in the fishery being applied for.
  2. Three years as an Assistant Engineer on a similar sized vessel.
  3. Advanced fire fighting skills.
  4. Current First Aid and CPR cards.
  5. Clean vessel safety record.
  6. Familiarity of all state and federal requirements/regulations for the fishery being applied for.
  7. Familiarity with pollution abatement procedures.
  8. Basic HR awareness and training.
  9. Familiarity with production needs and willingness to work with vessel manager to supportproduction.
  10. Familiarity with state and federal regulations that apply to the vessel being applied for.
  11. Able to manage vessel safety programs and take responsibility for keeping the vessel shipshape.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and peripheral vision.

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to Read, speak, write and understand English and use customer service skills. The employee is frequently required to utilize interpersonal, teamwork, decision making skills, creativity, independent judgment, discretion, problem analysis, and supervision skills.
