Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and technical Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of our data ecosystem. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end architecture of high-performing, curated datasets using Snowflake and dbt.

You will drive the data strategy by leading the design and optimization of data models to support a wide range of use cases, including operational reporting, business intelligence, and advanced analytics. This includes, but is not limited to, using AI chatbots and Machine Learning models to have conversations with our data. This position plays a crucial role in integrating diverse data sources into our Snowflake platform and developing a unified, self-serve focused analytics platform.

As a key member of the team, you'll work closely with analysts, data scientists, engineers, and business leaders to ensure our data solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with our evolving business objectives. You'll be responsible for providing consistent, high-quality, and governed access to critical business data.

What you'll do:



  • Develop and maintain data architecture roadmap, defining the strategic direction and technical vision to support self-serve enablement across Macmillan data platform.
  • Build a data architecture to support self-serve reporting and analysis enablement by also ensuring the clarity and usefulness for all stakeholders.
  • Closely work with the Data Analytics and Data Platform teams to support the end-to-end design of scalable, high-performing data solutions in Snowflake using dbt.
  • This includes architecting and overseeing development of ELT pipelines and translating business needs into conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Define and implement data modeling strategies, focusing on schema and query optimization approaches within Snowflake to support high-performance workloads.
  • Accountable to establish and enforce data governance framework and standards to ensure data integrity, compliance, and consistent access.
  • Lead the ongoing maintenance and evolution of the self-serve data layer, including managing schema changes and monitoring data quality and performance.
  • Serve as a key point of contact and strategic advisor to engineering, analytics, and business teams.
  • Collaborate to align architectural decisions with business objectives, define requirements, and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership across Snowflake, data warehousing, and BI initiatives.
  • Lead architectural reviews and influence design decisions to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architecture diagrams, data cataloging, and lineage.
  • Stay current with industry trends and establish best practices in data architecture and metadata management.


What you'll bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in data environment including data architecture, systems design, and data platform development;
  • 6+ years of experience in data architecture roles
  • Strong technical proficiency in Snowflake, SQL, and other relevant data tools and technologies.
  • Proficiency in relational and dimensional modeling techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully implementing data architectures in Snowflake, supporting self-serve enablement.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL query optimization, data modeling, and performance tuning at scale.
  • Experience with Github based development methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of data security, access control, and compliance frameworks and implementation techniques
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools, specifically Power BI, and a strong understanding of how to optimize data models for BI consumption.
  • Proven ability to translate complex business requirements into data architecture and design strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, influence architecture across teams, and communicate with executive stakeholders.
  • Self-starter and team player with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines with shifting priorities
  • Deep understanding of Data Governance best practices and the desire + ability to lead excellent data processes across diverse teams.
  • SnowPro Advanced Architect or equivalent certification would be a plus
  • Experience with dbt would be plus


    This role will have an annual salary of $160,000-$170,000.
