Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or the equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience to meet managerial expectations.

Responsibilities for this Position

GDMS is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor to lead our manufacturing engineering team supporting our Bloomington Manufacturing Operations. This position will report into the Senior Manager for Manufacturing in our Bloomington Site. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will lead team members to establish manufacturing plans, monitor performance, established processes and procedures. Your team will also work with design engineering teams to provide design for manufacturing recommendations, transition new products into production, and ensure manufacturing processes are capable of delivering quality products. The manufacturing engineering team will have the responsibility establish cost and cycle time targets for manufacturing processes. Your team will support ongoing production to ensure processes remain in control and lead corrective action when required. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will coordinate cross functional activities to execute manufacturing processes, implement continuous improvement and monitor operations to ensure customer requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations for new and existing products
    • Act as DPMO or support DPMO to assigned programs
    • Ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements
    • Collaborate across departments-Lines of Business, Supply Chain Management, and Engineering to ensure program objectives are aligned and understood
    • Manage people, including performance evaluations and merit recommendations
    • Work closely with product design/engineering to ensure new products are seamlessly transitioned into production
    • Act as a liaison with engineering in releasing new products
    • Ensure that all internal quality practices demonstrate compliance with external regulations
    • Manage all capital requirements in facilities and ensure equipment and machinery meet the required safety, quality, and productivity requirements
    • Responsible for areas of lean manufacturing techniques, cost reduction, on-time delivery performance, safety, visual controls, and plant performance measurements
    • Ensure the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel in producing quality products at minimum costs
    • Implement and analyze manufacturing engineering plans and projects
    • Design, develop, and transfer manufacturing engineering tools, strategies, and systems
    • Lead other managers and/or supervisors related to a business area, project, or strategic activity
    • Manage group activities to develop and implement long-range goals and objectives to meet business and stated profitability growth objectives
    • Monitor the overall execution of process changes to improve overall efficiency of manufacturing and the effects on current and future work (cost, cycle time, quality)
    • Communicate relevant department, group, or project information to other related teams and departments
    • Ensure process compliance of all manufacturing activity in areas of responsibility
    • Contribute to the development of strategies for pricing, program planning, risk management, negotiations, and margin generation for programs at the proposal stage
    • Establish selection criteria for hiring senior members of operations staff and manage the hiring process
    • Lead and manage proposals within the business area
    • Manage and review the development of operations schedules and baselines in response to program direction, contract guidance, and product lifecycle requirements
    • Lead efforts to identify schedule and resource risks and develop risk reduction plans
    • Lead the team in the development and execution of earned value requirements
    • Review operations plans to meet requirements for sales planning and to ascertain manufacturing or outsourcing requirements to develop new products/markets
    • Regularly assess performance of team members to established processes and procedures
    • Mentor and develop other operations managers and supervisors
    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization
    • Manage area to achieve all strategic goals
    • May be responsible for multiple functions, locations, products, or technical abilities
    • Regular communications with senior and division-level management
    • Travel may be required
    • Regular customer interface

    • Possess electronic manufacturing technical skills, system knowledge, and operations proficiency
    • Demonstrated planning, organization, and execution skills
    • Ability to implement changes and monitor effectiveness of changes related to cost and schedule of team or project
    • Ability to motivate team or project personnel to develop innovative ideas for resolving business or project-related issues through continuous improvement
    • Use of change management and influence skills to obtain management-level support for initiatives
    • Ability to lead team activities to changing conditions
    • Work with the team or project to determine options to change and present recommendations to team or project management
    • Lead the team to define team roles and responsibilities
    • Interface with other teams to communicate the effectiveness of the team
    • Analytical knowledge in budgeting, planning, problem-solving, and cost analysis
    • Ability to prepare, direct, manage, and maintain complex plans
    • Understanding of the business environment and how department and projects support division/company goals
    • Substantial experience in the assigned area of expertise
    • Depth of organizational knowledge resulting in superior performance in delivery of products, services, or proposals to customers or collaboration across functions
    • Ability to align the team on tactical and strategic objectives
    • Ability to lead others in team building, conflict resolution, motivating, leadership, and advanced risk management
    • Understanding of the total life cycle of product/program
    • Effective performance management
    • Knowledge base of Design-to-Unit Production Cost (DTUPC) methodologies
    • Ability to lead people and achieve results through others
    • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization, as well as external contacts
    • Regulatory knowledge of industry requirements for health and safety
    • Knowledge and understanding of Supply Chain Management and Procurement Management


Target salary range: USD $103,254.00/Yr. - USD $111,724.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
