Auria is looking for a Cyber Engineer to support the development of secure, cloud-hosted ground systems. This role is responsible for integrating cybersecurity requirements into the design, deployment, and operation of a Common Ground Element, ensuring compliance with DoD standards and achieving Authority to Operate (ATO). The Cyber Engineer will work closely with systems engineers, software developers, and government stakeholders to implement cyber protections across all phases of development and demonstration.
This is a remote position with a preference to be located in Colorado Springs, Co, or Huntsville, AL.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:
- Develop and implement cybersecurity requirements for cloud-hosted ground systems, ensuring compliance with DoD and DISA security standards.
- Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities, including system security plans, assessment, and authorization
- Apply DoD STIGs, FedRAMP, and NIST 800-53 controls to system configuration and deployments.
- Collaborate with system engineers and developers to integrate cyber protections into CI/CD pipelines and containerized microservices (DevSecOps).
- Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk analysis to identify and mitigate system weaknesses.
- Support security test events, demonstrations, and Government reviews related to HIGH system accreditation.
- Maintain documentation of security architecture, configurations, and compliance evidence.
- Participate in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) and cross-vendor security integration activities.
- Support the investigation of cyber breaches
- Draft client reports to explain findings and recommendations
WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:

- Bachelor's degree Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Preferred 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering for DoD, NASA, NOAA or mission-critical systems
- Familiarity with cloud security architectures (AWS GovCloud, Azure Gov, hybrid cloud)
- Experience with RMF processes, security controls implementation, and accreditation packages
- Knowledge of STIGs, NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and other DoD cybersecurity standards
- Hands-on experience with vulnerability assessment tools, and system hardening
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
WHAT THE TEAM PREFERS:
- Experience supporting DoD space or missile defense programs
- Knowledge of container security (Kubernetes, Docker)
- Familiar with SIEM tools, intrusion detection, and endpoint protection solutions.
- Strong communication skills with ability to interface with Government stakeholders and cross-vendor teams.
PAY TRANSPARENCY: The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications - skills, education & experience - and the position level. $130,000 - $160,000
