Engineering Support roles encompass a diverse range of positions that provide technical assistance and expertise to engineering teams across various disciplines. These roles may involve tasks such as conducting research, performing analyses, and assisting in the design and development of engineering projects. Engineering support professionals work closely with engineers and other stakeholders to ensure projects meet quality standards, deadlines, and budgetary constraints.

Discipline Description

Engineering specialists support engineers in the design, modification, improvement, and maintenance of products, processes, and systems in support of nuclear facility operations and missions. Activities include identifying and recommending improvements/preventive actions, inspecting, testing, maintaining, repairing, and installing equipment and systems. They may develop/configure software and/or applications. They monitor processes, estimate costs, make, or verify calculations, and analyze and interpret data. They test new and modified products, processes, and/or systems.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

SRNS is seeking to hire an Experienced Automation Software Developer / System Integrator with extensive continuous Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) automation experience. This person will become an integral part of the Operational Technology PLC Systems Team. Operational Technology provides process automation solutions to support safe, secure, and effective operations for Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) facilities.

Specific support provided will differ according to assignment, but will generally include:

* Directing, planning, developing, implementing, and administering technical engineering and operations related programs.
* Ensure technical aspects of engineering, operations, or maintenance programs are in compliance with governing directives.
* Interface and negotiate with vendors to resolve equipment, services, staffing, and technical related issues.
* Evaluate and analyze equipment, instruments, and procedures needed to upgrade operations programs.
* Evaluate, test, and procure new equipment and instruments in support of assigned operations programs.
* Ensure technical aspects of engineering and operations programs are in compliance with applicable laws, standards, and DOE Orders.
* Serve on various committees regarding standardization of equipment, instrumentation, processes, and training in support of the company and DOE operations programs.
* Direct daily activity of other engineering and technical support specialists and serve as an area point of contact or subject matter expert for the most complex technical issues.
* Assist less experienced personnel with more difficult aspects of work and provide guidance to less senior employees to achieve assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
* Demonstrate cost and schedule awareness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.

Candidates should possess skills and experience in several areas including:
* Configuring OPC servers
* Developing HMI software
* Developing PLC software from scratch
* Industrial network communications architectures
* Integrating data management systems
* Performing instrumentation calibrations/simulations
* Programing in LAD, SFC, FBD, and Structured Text
* Reviewing control logic diagrams
* Reviewing electrical diagrams
* Reviewing P&IDs
* Training/mentoring colleagues, maintenance personnel, and operations personnel
* Troubleshooting PLC hardware and software
* Writing technical procedures

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least ten years of experience (YOE), OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least eight years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE)
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications.
