Position Description: |
The University of Iowa Department of Emergency Medicine's Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is seeking an EMS Fellowship Program Director. Appointment rank may be at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level on either the tenure track or the clinical (non-tenure) track, consistent with prior experience and qualifications. The Program Director will provide leadership, oversight, and guidance in all aspects of the fellowship. The successful candidate will also maintain an active clinical emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine practice and engagement in EMS Division activities, including education, research, clinical outreach, and medical directorship. The University of Iowa EMS Fellowship is an ACGME-accredited one-year, fully funded program operating since 2018. Ten agencies provide a robust training experience for the EMS fellow, including urban and rural ambulance services, urban fire and rescue, air medical transport, SWAT medical support, and event medicine. Additional education is provided regarding EMS administration, leadership, regulatory, and financial topics. The successful candidate will direct all aspects of the fellowship, with the assistance of other faculty in the Division of EMS. The Program Director will report to the EMS Division Director, and the successful candidate will have administrative support and professional development opportunities supported by the Department of Emergency Medicine. The mission of the EMS Division is to deliver high quality prehospital care, provide clinical leadership through medical direction, engage at regional, state, and national levels, educate the public and EMS providers, and contribute to prehospital scholarship. The Division is composed of multiple fellowship-trained EMS physicians involved in all aspects of prehospital care throughout the State of Iowa. Division faculty provide clinical medical direction to University of Iowa AirCare; Kinnick Stadium (NCAA Division I Football) and Carver-Hawkeye Arena (NCAA Division I Basketball and Wrestling), the Iowa EMS Association, the Iowa Bureau of Emergency Medical and Trauma Services, and multiple local EMS agencies. Division EMS physicians also provide community response in a specialized physician response vehicle for advanced 911 calls and SWAT team support. The Division also directs the EMS Learning Resource Center, Iowa's oldest EMS career training program and the largest AHA training facility in the Midwest. Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Education Requirement: |
- Applicants must have an MD/DO or equivalent.
- Applicants must possess current subspecialty certification in Emergency Medicine Services by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.

Required Qualifications: |
- Applicants must have at least three years' experience as a core faculty member in an ACGME-accredited emergency medicine residency program or emergency medical services fellowship program.
- Applicants must be eligible for an active Iowa medical license.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

- Current clinical activity in the practice of emergency medical services.
