The Senior Manager, Software Engineering will lead several software development teams on the Wholesale Decision Support release train. In conjunction with the train's engineering leadership, they will develop and execute an engineering strategy which will be an enabler for the company to execute its operational and product strategy.

The Senior Manager will identify technology opportunities for products, direct implementation of technology components of product strategy, and have overall responsibility for effectively delivering on needed results and objectives. The Senior Manager will effectively staff and develop teams, evolve and maintain the culture, and refine processes necessary to sustain a high-quality team of software engineering professionals.

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering will be a hands-on technical leader who has a strong engineering background, actively contributes to code/design, and has experience managing, guiding and mentoring high-performing technical teams.

This train is made up of several onshore and offshore scrum teams and this role is expected to lead these teams to ensure that they have effective processes allowing them to deliver.

Your Role:

  • Manages a set of software engineering teams and ensures responsibility for the engineering and architecture alignment of all solutions delivered within these teams.
  • Partners closely with leaders across Product, UX, Architecture, Analytics, and Agile Delivery teams.
  • Ensures that team organization, individual development, and communication are in line with the Cox Automotive vision. Builds scrum teams that perform at a high level. Fosters inter-team collaboration and productivity.
  • Responsible for execution and delivery of planned work that meets company standards with respect to quality, scalability, and reliability. Effectively communicates with key stakeholders when either scope or timeline of projects require modification.
  • Oversees engineering processes and ability to generate new processes to meet needs. Works closely with other leaders on continual process improvement and organizational change to support Agile values.
  • Tracks and measures project work and programs to assess overall success. Responsible for ensuring the scrum teams' overall morale and productivity continue to improve.
  • Manages career progression for team members to include hiring, performance reviews, salary decisions, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Partners with leadership on higher level initiatives across Cox Automotive.
  • Oversees budgeting for local team including headcount, hardware to support projects, staffing, facilities and tools for software development.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 8 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 6 years' experience; a Ph.D. and 3 years' experience in a related field; or 20 years' experience in a related field
  • 3+ years' experience managing software and data engineering teams, with clear examples of team development, delivery ownership, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • 3+ years' of recent, hands-on experience in modern development environments and can speak to challenges and solutions.
  • 3+ years' experience working in a Cloud Environment (AWS preferred, GCP or Azure)
  • Proven ability to develop and implement product delivery best practices that drive efficiency and alignment
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles with hands-on experience leading teams through iterative delivery cycles
  • Demonstrated leadership in effectively engaging stakeholders, communicating complex concepts, and presenting strategies to diverse audiences


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing data science applications and cloud-native data pipelines using platforms such as Snowflake, DBT, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Proficiency with high-volume transactional databases and data transformation tools.
  • Hands-on experience with technologies such as: Java, Ruby, GitHub Enterprise/GitHub Actions, New Relic and PagerDuty.


USD 144,900.00 - 241,500.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $144,900.00 - $241,500.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Benefits:

The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company's needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members.
