The Fixed Assets Specialist will be responsible for the comprehensive management of capital assets within the Utah, Wyoming and Idaho operations of the US gas distribution utilities. This role is central to ensuring the accurate capitalization, tracking, and reporting of fixed assets, while maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions. The Fixed Assets Specialist will proactively monitor systems and processes, collaborate with stakeholders, and provide technical guidance to support operational excellence and strategic objectives across the organization. Will also be responsible for the development of process enhancements and system improvements to drive efficiencies and harmonization.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead and support the Utah, Wyoming and Idaho Capital Assets team during month end close and reporting activities, doing so independently and with minimal supervision.

  • Analyze and review financial information and reports for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the output. Including but not limited to CWIP, PP&E, depreciation, and subledger to GL account reconciliations.

  • Identify and lead process improvements, system enhancements, harmonization, and automation initiatives, as well as support Unify (ERP conversion to Oracle Cloud) on upcoming system releases.

  • Coordinate with other Finance groups on month-end close, special projects / requests, and lead all aspects of issue resolution. In doing so, act as a primary representative when discussing complex accounting matters in meetings with groups both internal and external to Finance.

  • Work with other Capital teams to ensure consistency in processes and treatment (e.g. capital vs expense decisions) within GDS.

  • Lead and coach the team to promote a collaborative work environment and empower team members to achieve common goals.

  • Manage key SOX controls and Audit requirements as well as provide support to various regulatory requests and filings including assisting / leading various rate rebasing requests.

  • Analyze and solve sophisticated problems. Make recommendations to management for continuous improvement in accounting and business processes and procedures.

Who You Are: Required:
  • CPA and related university/college degree in business, commerce, or related field

  • Minimum of 7 years directly related and progressive experience

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills combined with a results-oriented mentality while being able to share knowledge, experience, and training with all team members in a non-biased manner.

  • Able to accurately evaluate people's capabilities and fit to appropriately assign tasks and responsibilities to team members based on roles and skills possessed.

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, as well as keen attention to detail

  • Experience working within a regulatory environment preferred

  • Show a solid understanding of accounting principles (US GAAP), related systems, processes, and company structure.

  • Independently assess, exercise good judgement, and accurately resolve complex issues encountered in the performance of job duties

  • Providing coaching, direction and review of work performed while being able to develop team members on routine, non-routine and/or complex assignments.

  • Able to complete complicated, non-routine assignments.

  • Proactive and skilled at anticipating problems before they arise and implementing mitigations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication with an ability to be persuasive and communicate in a clear, concise, and organized manner.

Physical Requirements (Include but are not limited to):

Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
