Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Chapel Hill Department of Transportation and Parking is an essential part of UNC Chapel Hill and is responsible for coordinating all traffic, parking and transportation services for UNC Chapel Hill's campus. The department strives to provide a high level of service to students, employees and visitors who work, live, and visit the University and UNC Health Care System. Transportation & Parking (T&P), partners with stakeholders and customers to manage this key University infrastructure system effectively and efficiently balancing limited resources and the diverse needs of the campus community. The department manages 10 parking decks and 160 surface parking areas with approximately 23,000 parking spaces providing employee, student, patient/visitor, and event access to the UNC campus. The University and UNC HealthCare System rely on a multi-modal transportation system that is heavily dependent upon local and regional transportation to provide access to the campus and hospitals. UNC partners with local and regional transit agencies to provide fare free at boarding local transit and subsidized regional transit opportunities for employees and students. T&P services and partners include Chapel Hill Transit, Triangle Transit Authority, Piedmont Area Rapid Transit, and Chatham Transit Network in addition to the UNC P2P Express and P2P On-Demand services. T&P also offers a UNC Commuter Alternative Program ( CAP) that incentivizes commuting opportunities including off-campus park & ride with frequent transit, carpool, vanpool, and car rental options. T&P plans, manages, and implements traffic, transit, and parking services on a daily basis and during major campus events such as large-scale athletic events, performing arts, Commencement, and VIP visits occurring at UNC.
Position Summary
This position supervises the staff who have a range of functions including monitoring parking facilities on the UNC campus, citing and impounding illegally-parked vehicles, placing directional equipment, collecting parking data, routing traffic, providing escort and providing general campus and regulatory information to the public.

Supervisory responsibilities include daily scheduling, event management, field coverage support, statistical analysis, information/records administration, office/ field technology administration, team building, problem-solving, and human resource administration.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Availability to work overtime and weekends due to high volume of all types of special events on campus is required. Excellent customer service and communication skills, to include answering telephones, greeting customers, problem-solving with customers, providing directions to the patrons / guests, cashiering, sales, receptionist type duties, etc., are essential.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A demonstrated minimum of 2 years of direct customer service and proficient communication skills with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory personnel administration and 2 years of office administration is preferred. Background in parking control, to include writing citations, directing traffic, collecting money for special events in the middle of traffic, collecting revenue at public parking decks, valet parking, screening parking lots, placing directional equipment such as for special events, meter collection, license plate recognition software experience, and traffic direction is strongly preferred. Familiarity with the UNC campus is also strongly preferred. Classes such as public speaking, verbal and non-verbal communication, interaction management, dealing with difficult people, diplomacy, traffic control techniques, psychology etc. are more than helpful.

Knowledge of computers, IBM personal computers, two-way radio and telephone operations is preferred. Knowledge of jump starting and unlocking vehicles, directing traffic and impounding vehicles is also helpful.
