What you'll do

Viasat seeks an attorney based in either the UK or US for its in-house legal department to provide legal support for Viasat's Global Fixed Broadband business unit. The candidate will primarily focus on our wholesale and retail broadband offering across the US and EMEA, as well as assisting with other Viasat strategic initiatives on an as-needed basis and may support other business units for key projects. This role will also involve collaboration with Viasat business and legal teams from Europe, the United States, and Latin America. You will be part of a wider global legal team that works in partnership to provide strategic legal support to the company's satellite telecommunications operations. We ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, draft and review contracts, manage risk, and support business initiatives related to satellite communications, spectrum management, and international regulations. Additionally, we collaborate closely with internal departments to address legal challenges and support the company's growth and innovation in the sector.


The day-to-day

  • Within the relevant business unit, provide advice to all levels of Viasat in the areas of telecommunications transactions, and communicate legal concepts in a way that non-lawyers can understand.
  • Contract Review & Drafting: Assisting in the preparation and review of complex contracts, partnership and service agreements, distribution agreements, and compliance documents.
  • Risk Assessment: Identifying potential legal risks in business operations and helping develop mitigation strategies.
  • Meetings & Collaboration: Participating in meetings with commercial teams, engineers, specialists, and external legal counsels to support business objectives.

What you'll need

    • UK, US or common law jurisdiction qualified lawyer.
    • At least 2-5 PQE (4 - 7 years of experience) gained at a leading law firm. This should include significant experience drafting and negotiating international commercial contracts. Tech/telecommunications sector and/or in-house experience a plus.
    • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to assess legal risks, interpret regulations, and apply critical thinking to real-world cases.
    • Strong Written and Verbal Communication - Ability to clearly articulate legal concepts and draft well-structured documents.
    • Proactive and Detail-Oriented Approach - Ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks, and ensure accuracy in legal documents.
