Title:Settlement Accountant

POSITION CONCEPT
The Settlements Accountant provides accounting and technical support of commodity transactions (such as natural gas, coal, power and by-products); includes preparing daily and monthly reports, maintaining records, providing supporting account analysis, verifying the accuracy of transactions, preparing monthly journal entries and invoices, and resolving invoice discrepancies relating to purchase and sales of fuels.
Advancement to a higher level is based on value added to the Company through increased duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments. Advancement is not automatic, i.e. based solely on time in the job, but will be based on the employee's performance, qualifications, and the technical needs of the department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works under general supervision with Front/Middle Office to reconcile trades and transactions and set up new vendors.
- Coordinate month-end closeout responsibilities with outside departments.
- Prepare settlements analysis and research reconciling items.
- Peer review settlement reports.
- Review and analyze accuracy of all inventory reporting.
- Create ad hoc analysis and reports and contribute to special projects.
- Prepare data as requested for various audits.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Related Experience
- Required: No financial work experience is required, but it is preferred
- Preferred: One or more years of financial work experience or regulated utility accounting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Required:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
- Attention to detail and organizational skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
- Preferred:
- An understanding of commodity contracts;
- Working knowledge of software systems such as Allegro and SAP

The Settlements Accountant II provides accounting and technical support of commodity transactions (such as natural gas, coal, power and by-products); includes preparing daily and monthly reports, maintaining records, providing supporting account analysis, verifying the accuracy of transactions, preparing monthly journal entries and invoices, and resolving invoice discrepancies relating to purchase and sales of fuels. Performs with increased complexity and with a higher level of contribution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works under limited supervision with Front/Middle Office to reconcile trades and transactions and set up new vendors.
- Coordinate month-end closeout responsibilities with outside departments.
- Prepare settlements analysis and research reconciling items.
- Peer review settlement reports.
- Review and analyze accuracy of all inventory reporting.

- Understand assignment of general ledger accounts.
- Working knowledge of two or more commodities.
- Working knowledge of Allegro parameters and SAP workflow.
- Working knowledge of commodity contracts.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
- self-motivated and detail oriented with advanced analytical and organizational skills;
- works with minimal supervision and performs well in a deadline driven environment.
- The ability to engage professionally with leadership and internal/external constituents.
- Demonstrates judgement and identifies potential process improvements.
- Preferred:
- Advanced knowledge of software systems Allegro and SAP.
- Knowledge of commodity accounting and thorough understanding of commodity contracts.
