Job Title: Assistant Superintendent, Fleet Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Fleet Operations

Reports to: Assistant Manager, Fleet Operations

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Assistant Superintendent, Fleet Operations, is secondarily responsible for leadership and oversight of an assigned machine in the business unit after, and in relief of, the Superintendent. Primary responsibilities include safe operations and crews, maintenance excellence and housekeeping, on-the-job training, certification compliance, and talent and performance management for all crew members, resulting in service delivery excellence, through competent and engaged crews. Deliver unrivaled customer service by maintaining a well-disciplined and motivated crew and a safe and reliable machine. Responsible for the entire crew adhering to all Loram, customer, and industry rules, policies, and procedures to operate at the highest possible levels of safety awareness. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Leadership and Talent Development



  • Serve as a relief to Superintendent to lead machine crew personnel ranging from 2 - 15 people.
  • Provide input to Superintendent to help identify crew members for advancement and identify performance or behavioral issues for coaching and corrective action
  • Assist the training of new employees in company policies, machine operations, maintenance practices, safety procedures, and unique customer requirements.


Safety and Operational Excellence



  • Maintain a disciplined operation including enforcement of standard operating practices and safety procedures at the crew level
  • Ensure scheduled preventive maintenance is being performed and correct all equipment defects in a timely manner to assure consistent product quality and machine reliability
  • Understand and deliver operating efficiency in accordance with the corresponding KPI's


Business Management



  • Control the key cost drivers of the operation while serving as a relief to the superintendent, specifically, labor, material, and travel
  • Manage and audit onboard machine inventory to ensure authorized levels are maintained
  • Elevate chronic machine failures for component or process improvement


Communications



  • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts on customer railroads, to manage service and quality expectations, maximize track access and production and, if necessary, handle disputes prior to escalation
  • Create written production and incident reports for both internal and external customers.
  • Facilitate and resolve misunderstandings, and ambiguity and know when to seek help from the Superintendent, Assistant Manager, and/or Manager
  • Communicate effectively when speaking with a small group of employees and customers in the field to provide effective job briefings, work instructions, and rules reviews.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma/Equivalent

Experience: 1+ years of understanding Loram Maintenance of Way equipment's role in a highly demanding customer service environment.

1+ years of demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

1+ years of demonstrating technical skills such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and machine operations.

Licenses/Certifications: All Railroad specific certifications to operate on track, Loram Operating Rules Certification. All Loram required E-Learning, On the Job, and 3rd Party Safety Training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • A working knowledge of railroads, transportation, heavy construction, or combination.
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly become familiar with Railroad products and services, particularly pertaining to maintenance of tracks and structures.
  • A disciplined work ethic and advocate for LORAM management's mission and vision.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible travel calendar.

Education: Technical Certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • A working knowledge of railroads, transportation, heavy construction, or combination.
  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly become familiar with Railroad products and services, particularly pertaining to maintenance of tracks and structures.

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.

Starting pay for the position is between $76,000 - $95,000.
