National Grid is hiring a Designer for our National Grid's Asset Engineering department on Long Island, NY.

Job Purpose

The primary role for this position will be to provide drafting services in support in National Grid's Asset Engineering Department.

Key Accountabilities
  • Coordination with Design Engineers for preparation of project design drawings through the use of computer aided design software. Personnel will need to be knowledgeable in preparing designs in 2d and 3d, as necessary for multi discipline collaboration.
  • Apply recommended practices, industry codes, standards, and regulations as required toward work assignments.
  • Drafting design drawings/details for civil, mechanical and electrical projects and other design activities related to capital projects for LNG, CNG, gas transmission, and pressure regulation system.
  • Interface with other gas organizations to prepare working drawings for information gathering and facilitate other drafting of designs as necessary.
  • Provide support during construction and start-up of projects and assistance to operating departments and engineers as required
  • Responsible for working with the design team to perform drafting duties of capital project historical records(as builts) for multiple gas assets.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline is required with 0 to 3 years of engineering, design experience. Working knowledge with the Autodesk suite of design software is a requirement.
  • A strong sense of organization and drafting techniques in adherence with industry standards is required. Understanding of piping systems and civil designs such as site development, maintenance and protection of traffic, etc., is preferred
Qualifications
  • Experience in drafting and design of process piping and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and time constraints
  • Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally to the organization.

Capabilities:

  • Promotes team effectiveness by soliciting input from team members.
  • Ability to work within a team of designers and engineers to deliver quality project designs on schedule to support the capital work plan.
  • Ability to create and critique mechanical and/or electrical designs.
  • Capable of visiting field installations and identifying differences between design and as-built conditions for quality of documentation.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with safe driving history

Downstate NY Salary: $101,000 - $119,000 a year

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA).
